Meet Plus Size Blogger, Leah of Beauty and the Muse!
How long have you been blogging? 3 years
What or who inspired you to become a fashion blogger? What led you to it?
I was in a bad place in life. One day, I scrolled through Instagram (my friends made me create an account), and I saw this beautiful, voluptuous blogger named Essie Golden. In the picture, she slayed. I’d never seen such a fierce and confident woman before so I decided to channel the negative energy into something positive. Something that would help the next girl or woman going through similar hardships.
I was going to start a fashion blog as a fat, black, Muslim girl from Detroit. I had no idea what I was doing. I didn’t know any bloggers or the business behind it. I was just putting it out there go see where it went.
Do you blog full-time, for fun, as a hobby? Share your evolution!
I started blogging part-time just to get my mind off the crap that was going on around me. Now, I blog and write full-time, juggling my projects, social media account, and freelance work. I’m trying to make it all a cohesive brand.
What is your favorite asset? Your legs, arms, waist? How do you play that up?
I have a few favorite parts of my body. I love my lips. And I loved them before the whole Kylie Jenner craze started. lol. They are just the perfect full size and I wear the loudest and boldest colors.
My hips and I have a love/hate relationship. I love how they carry me from point A to point B with confidence and pride. I dress them up with long, flowy dresses or shiny spandex leggings. Now, the times I have to try on jeans and they won’t go past my hips, well that’s another story…haha.
What are the challenges, if any, you face in being petite and plus-size?
So, I am short and round with huge thighs and big arms. For me, the challenge is finding fits and silhouettes that are comfortable. I want to be able to move and stretch but still bring the slayage. Jeans are the worst! They may be too tight there or too loose here or way too long. I have like one pair of jeans because of this issue.
What’s your favorite thing about being petite and plus-size?
The best thing about being a petite plus-size gal is that the sleeve length on everything is always on point. Also, long dresses hit where they need to hit without flooding.
What’s your favorite thing about being a blogger?
I love how creative I can be. I can say or wear anything I want on my blog or to an event. I can experiment with different styles and textures. I love the aspect of inspiring others to experiment as well and not to be fearful of other’s opinions and thoughts. What’s not to love about being a blogger?
Who/what are your favorite designers/brands?
I’m in love with Torrid, Forever 21 plus, and Rebdolls. I also love Wal-Mart and Burlington.
Describe your personal style.
My style is all over the place. Every year, I find myself switching it up. If I were to describe it now, I’d say it is very glam! I love the theatrics.
Which bloggers inspire you? Plus or straight size! Any bloggers currently on your radar?
Omg! There are soooo many. I love Essie Golden, Everything Curvy and Chic, Manfattan, Curves Become Her, Chubby Cartwheels, Caitlin Tischer, and Fashion Bomb Daily. And so many more.
What do you think about where plus size fashion is today versus a few years back?
Oh, the plus-size fashion industry is definitely different from what it used to be. When I was a plus teen, I was just starting to see the market for fashion evolve. Today, I see an influx of fashionable fat babes killing the game and frankly, taking over.
What do you think or hear from readers, is one of the biggest myths about plus size fashion?
A myth that’s been floating around is that plus-size women should always try to achieve an ‘hourglass’ shape. Some of us are shaped like apples and even if we weren’t, we can wear what makes us feel good.
Are you working on anything or have anything to share? Anything else you want The Curvy Fashionista’s readers to know?
So I just launched my new blog site (moved it from WordPress).
You can view it at: www.beautyandthemuse.net
Also, I’m adding new content to my YouTube: Leah V. Daily
And of course, you can follow my fashion shenanigans on IG: Lvernon2000
Lastly, what does Curvy.Confident.Chic mean to you?
Every woman has curves. Which I love a movement that includes all woman (and men) who want to be confident and chic.
