Although the #OscarsSoWhite controversy garnered more attention than the event itself, we would be remiss to not talk about the gorgeous gowns that some of our favorite fashion-forward stars rocked on the red carpet. And while drooling over the designer dresses is a lot of fun, it can sometimes be bittersweet since those pieces can be out of a reasonable price range… and only available to the thin trendsetters. BUT! There are quite a few designer dresses that cater to our curves and wow just as equally!
Thankfully, Rent The Runway is ready to solve your dress distress with some fabulous designer gowns that can fit your budget and body. Although the gowns might not be exact copies, we rounded up some stunning styles that resemble our favorite red carpet gowns from the 2016 Oscars. Keep scrolling to see the designer doppelgangers and tell us in the comments which ones you love most!

The mom-to-be stunned in sparkles all night, but it was her after party gown that blew us away. The sleek black floor-length dress gave us old Hollywood glam with a modern twist, and kept her baby bump on full display.
Love her look? Badgley Mischka has you covered with their Palais du Louvre Gown. The elegant off-the-shoulder neckline, three-quarter sleeves, flattering ruching, fitted silhouette and shimmering sequins will let your curves shine.
Irish Actress Saoirse Ronan may have been inspired by the Emerald Isles, if her gorgeous green gown was any indication. The spectacular shade works on all skin tones, and the sequin swirls are a cool update on the classic paillettes.
You don’t have to be green with envy for Ronan’s look if you rent this emerald Badgley Mischka gown. The sophisticated draped neckline is a bit more wearable than the original, and the chic cap sleeves and softly flared hem give this glittering gown an extra dose of glam.
Looking lovely in layers of lace, Jennifer Lawrence proved that gothic-glam is a thing – and we should take note. The nude lace bodice gave the illusion of skin while still keeping her bits covered, and the softly-tiered sheer skirt created drama without adding bulk.
Living for those layers? Then Adrianna Papell’s Black Scallop Gown should be on the top of your list for an effortless black tie option. The pale, lace-covered top will look nude on lighter skin tones and create a stunning contrast on darker skin, while the elegant tiered skirt draws the eye to your natural curves.
Margot Robbie practically rivaled the award statuettes in this gilded gown, proving that sometimes everything that glitters is gold. She tempered the sexy deep plunging neckline and sleek fitted silhouette with demure long sleeves
Get the same look for a steal with this rose gold Badgley Mischka dress; the sleeveless design showcases your awesome arms, while the thicker straps make it easy to wear your comfiest bra instead of a tricky strapless. And you don’t have to feel gilt-y when you rent it; the glitzy gown will only run you $75 (instead of $650 retail).
Although some curvy actresses say that they cannot find a designer to dress them, Patricia Arquette proved that there are talented high-end plus designers when she picked this sophisticated blue Marina Rinaldi gown. The off-the-shoulder neckline is very on-trend and the eye-catching ruffles are a fabulous way to add drama without overwhelming the wearer.
Although it doesn’t appear that Arquette’s Marina Rinaldi gown is currently for sale, we found the next best thing with Carmen Marc Valvo’s Couture Ruffle Gown. With a strikingly similar silhouette, playful ruffles, and trendy asymmetric neckline, you’ll capture the sophisticated vibe (but only for $80)!
A few great options, right? I know that Marie has used them for a wedding she went to… She chose the Theia dress and rocked it. But Rent the Runway is not only for weddings, but if you have a fancy cocktail party, awards dinner, or fancy dinner, you may want to think rental before you buy it!
