The buzz of New York Fashion Week is electric, but for a plus size woman, it can also be nerve-racking. It was difficult finding outfits to fall in love with to wear throughout the week and I feared there wouldn’t be many other people like me. However, Adore Me was a happy surprise of inclusivity.

Adore Me‘s cabaret-themed show on Feb. 7th at Sony Hall brought out many admirers. Even before the doors opened, the atmosphere was clear. The line outside was a living testament to inclusivity, with plus size individuals lining the street to enter the fashion show wearing their best of the best. It was a visual declaration: this was a space where we belonged.

Adore Me Values Inclusivity and it Shows

The shared presence of fellow plus size fashionistas provided immediate comfort. Yet, it was Adore Me CEO Morgan Hermand-Waiche opening speech that truly spoke to the hearts of everyone in the room. Hermand-Waiche emphasized the importance of inclusivity in fashion and with Adore Me. The speech served as a moment the plus size community desperately needed.

During his opening speech, Morgan Hermand-Waiche made it clear he wanted the lingerie to be available to women of all sizes, and he also wanted the show to be easily accessible for those who couldn’t be present. The show was broadcast on Instagram, and individual model walks were uploaded shortly after the show. The runway was an excellent showcase of Hermand-Waiche’s inclusivity sentiments, featuring women from all walks of life. There were varying ages, body types, ethnicities, and races. Surprisingly, there was also the inclusion of a pregnant model. Additionally, a mother carrying her baby ended the show.

To say this show celebrated women is an understatement. The beautiful, sexy, alluring lingerie was just the cherry on top of the night. Seeing women who reflected my life, with bodies similar to mine, brought goosebumps to my arms, and tears to my eyes.

I adored all of the looks full of lace, sparkles, and tulle. The collection is great for any occasion, especially for Valentine’s Day. Most of the lingerie pieces follow typical color schemes like red, pink, and black. Still, there are also a few baby blue pieces, a color that has been recurring throughout several shows during New York Fashion Week.

The crowd’s energy was infectious. As each model walked, cheers were heard from every corner of the venue. The audience was seemingly excited to see inclusivity on such a large stage, and at a large scale, showed their appreciation through cheers and applause.

As a special surprise, pop singer Mya performed, and the crowd showed her much love. The audience erupted, singing and dancing along to her performance. She matched their energy, delivering a powerful show in Adore Me’s lingerie.

In addition to Mya’s performance, there was a former Cirque du Soleil performer, and dancers who followed the cabaret theme. The show in its entirety was amazing to watch.

New York Fashion Week can so easily become redundant, presenting the same type of woman over and over. Adore Me stood out as they ensured that wasn’t the experience for their show. The vibes were high from beginning to end, and everyone was celebrated every step of the way. It was a beautiful night full of beautiful bodies and beautiful lingerie.

The Adore Me show provided a new sense of confidence. Witnesssing authenticity and intention with every inclusive motive was spectacular. The show was an overall reminder that every size is beautiful and deserves just as much recognition as straight-sized bodies do.
