The world of high fashion and New York Fashion Week, in particular, is not terribly inclusive. And we donโ€™t just mean size inclusivity. Itโ€™s safe to say that fashion has a huge issue with diversity in all forms; and they know that (as evidenced by the plea for inclusion from CFDA President Steven Kolb).

In an industry that still seems to be awash with thin, tall bodies and white faces, the catwalk remains elusive to many of us. However, one brand truly stands out in the sea of the fashion industry: Chromat.

For the brandโ€™s Spring 2020 show, and their tenth anniversary, Chromat pushed for diversity in EVERY way possible.ย

What Plus Size People Actually Wore To New York Fashion Week

Chromatโ€™s Future Vision for Spring 2020

Chromatโ€™s Spring 2020 runway featured the brandโ€™s signature future-leaning designs; pops of neon and daring blue and candy-colored crinolines anchored to the models in abstract and fascinating ways.

The pieces are bright, playful but also super wearable; oversized hoodies and citrine-waisted athleisure skirts I could definitely see myselfย  in this spring.

Reimagining Diversity in Every Way Possible

Now, you know we love Chromat for their fashions, but we cannot talk about the show without highlighting the diversity the brand is known for. For their tenth anniversary, they did NOT disappoint โ€“ we saw gender, size, age, body and racial diversities on the Chromat runway.

We also saw some familiar faces; from Plus size media darling Tess Holiday, Denise Bidot, and one half of the social media twin duo known as the Clermont twins.

The celebrities and personalities featured ALSO spanned the diversity spectrum; in short, every body was celebrated on the Chromat runway.

In addition to going above and beyond in physical diversity, Chromat took one step further and implemented economic diversity.

The brand announced that they planned to sell direct-to-consumers in order to better control costs.

In an interview with Vogue, Chromat founder and creative director Becca McCharen-Tran shared that it was feedback from her customers that led to the decision. McCharen-Tran also hopes that selling directly to her customers also allows for a wider range of available style and sizes.
