I’m being a tease 😂 The full gown in all its glory created by Mallorie of @smart_glamour Huge shoutout to her. So talented. Not kidding when I tell you jaws dropped when I entered the venue. I got stopped left and right. People wanted photos, to know who I was. I was told by everyone that i stole the show. And, that’s exactly what I went to do. Snatch all edges. It’s a pity more designers don’t design for big bodies. We have the right to feel just as beautiful as our thinner counterparts. Last night was filled with so much love and support. Although, I was denied access to the red carpet—not once but twice—I was saddened. I really wanted to represent for all the marginalized bodies out there. I wanted to be the fat, Black Muslim girl repping but that’s okay, because imma make it to someone’s red carpet one day. And, it won’t be any doubt that I belong there. *Tongue pop* Thank you to @glamourmag for inviting me. Allowing me to model for your first “Plus-Size Style” Awards. I’m still in awe and wondering how someone from Detroit had the opportunity to be here. The highlight was when Anna Wintour looked me dead ass in the face, smiled and gave a nod of approval for my outfit 😭 I had a fan girl moment when I stumbled over my words and got to hug Ava DuVernay. I cried over Chanel Miller’s speech (Google her!) and afterwards she told me how she was lowkey obsessed with my gown the whole night. Even got a photo with Olympian Ali Krieger! Do you love my lewk? We’re you hoping that I wore the red or green one? What does it mean for you to see someone like me at these events that are usually very privileged and monolithic? Feel free to gas me. Cuz I can’t stop crying over these photos. Let’s chat. #ad When you're shopping for a wedding dress, I cannot stress the importance of trying something out of your comfort zone. I never thought I would wear a wedding dress that covered my arms. It felt important to me to make a statement that my large arms didn't *need* to be covered on my wedding day. When I found this wedding dress from @davidsbridal, I fell in love. I realized that the illusion sleeves with delicate floral details celebrated my arms, not hid them. You can't always put happiness into words but I think my face says it all. The best part? I was able to walk into my local David's Bridal store to try it on. This is just one of many David's Bridal wedding dresses available up to a size 30W. This dress fit true to ready-to-wear sizing and I am wearing a 20W – my usual size. The amazing alterations team at David's Bridal adjusted the sleeves and gown length for my petite frame on a quick turnaround. I was comfortable to eat, laugh and most importantly, twirl! #DavidsBridal #FindTheOne #PlusSizeBride #Wedding #LoveIsLove 📸: @_gra_photography

Full Fit ✨ #PinkPolo2019 ——— Storytime: Had a conversation with someone yesterday that reminded me that I’m not and have never really been taken seriously as a valuable contributor to the fashion industry. & if we’re being honest, the babes the industry take seriously all have a similar look and feel. I’m short, dark skinned and fat—there’s no way that hasn’t hindered my progress and success, especially in this country. I have been in the industry for a really long time now and if we keeping it 100— I don’t have a lot to show for it. I mean sure, I have the consistent support and love from the people who follow and support me but that’s pretty much it. I’m definitely not backed by the media, either. The media has dubbed me so many titles without my consent, always insisting on labeling me a “plus-size” something or the other. I don’t and have never really consented to being labeled any of that or other similar terms. What those labels do is further more remove me from the work I actually do, others me, and separates me from the pack and that has been so damaging to my career as someone who believes to have put in some work over the years to be seen for the work I do in fashion, and nothing else. I can’t help but think how things would be if I looked different. There are so many instances and things that were told to my face that corroborates my story. I have been snubbed opportunities with no real reasons or explanations but the favourite “she isn’t a brand fit”. I have had designers not want to work with me on the same EXACT capacity they do my peers— it’s so obvious that they have no business wanting to dress a fat person. I have been treated very poorly on set by stylists in comparison to fellow ‘smaller’ framed ‘influencers’, —the list goes on. The only time I’m even considered is when a brand or campaign is taking a “inclusive” approach—but I’m never considered, to JUST be considered. So much work has to be done to NORMALIZE people who ‘look like me ‘ and that work in fashion. We’ve merely scrapped the surface. ——— Make-up: @rushanaisaacs Fit: If you’re a real one, you already know the answer to this. Hat: @therealcrystalbirch Accesorizes : @zara

Tag a friend and tell me where you’d take this perfect @marahoffman set? ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ It’s the first day of spring so I’m embracing spring trends like their going out of style! First stop, linen. It’s really amazing how much influence Instagram and millennials have on fashion, just last year linen saw a 13% growth along with a surge of straw hats, espadrilles, and bags. Resort style is booming, thanks to the increasing wave in millennial travel. With some of us influencers constantly chasing the sun, designers have answered the need for both style, and function. Steel Magnolia: Breathtaking, delicate beauty of creamy perfection with roots running deep in Southern soil, a history almost as old as time, and endurance as tough as steel she defies description and explanation but … Beauty is it’s own excuse. ⁣ ⁣ Do you remember the movie Steel Magnolias? The original version is one of my favorite movies … probably because I am a native Southern Belle who knows someone like EVERY SINGLE character in the movie. Every One! ⁣ ⁣ This look reminds me of the way the prim and proper ladies in my life dressed for brunch, tea and church (of course they'd wear a cardigan over their shoulders and a prayer cloth in their laps in the Lord's house!) ⁣ ⁣ Are you a GIRL RAISED IN THE SOUTH (GRITS)? If so, how did the bougie ladies in your town dress for "proper" ocassions? ⁣#NikkiFreeStyle Screenshot or 'like' this pic to shop the product details from the LIKEtoKNOW.it app! http://liketk.it/2BH22 ⁣ @liketoknow.it #liketkit #LTKstyletip #LTKitbag #LTKcurves 📸: @howelldesigns
