It’s no secret I absolutely love and adore chambray. It screams classic, vintage style. It’s soft and lightweight. It can be dressed up or down and it’s a perfect addition to your wardrobe. Chambray has a long history and one that’s synonymous with World War II and as a workman’s uniform. In centuries past, the lightweight fabric was used for undergarments, handkerchiefs, children’s clothing and other accessories and frills. Although we normally see it in various shades of blue, it can be modified to be white, red, pink and green. There are so many options! I’d love to see more plus size items made using the fabric (ie – blazers, wide leg pants, skirts – hint hint….).
Today it’s versatile and well-worn with denim (Note: the weave of chambray is different than that of denim so while there is a similar look the fabric structure is different), whites and prints. Let’s take a look at 9 chambray shirts and 2 dresses.
