What made you want to become a fashion blogger?
Back when I started blogging in 2009, everyone was just doing personal style blogs. I am a self proclaimed shopaholic and I wanted to create a site that not only showcased my personal style, but showed plus size women how to shop, style themselves, and the best places to shop for clothes in their size. There weren’t a lot of spaces on the internet where plus size women could find the latest trends, fashion, or plus size celebrity style, so I carved out a space for it.
What are the challenges, if any, you face in being plus-size?
Hmm, the most challenging thing would be having to always have things altered. I am bigger on the bottom than I am on the top so I always have to buy my clothes one size bigger and get them taken in. I have a big butt along with a gut so clothes have to fit my bottom part neatly.
I believe your clothes should fit and lay on your body without looking fussy.
What’s your favorite thing about being plus-size?
My favorite thing about being plus size is being able to fill out my clothes nicely. I love the way jeans fit my curves. I feel super confident in a pair of skinny jeans.
What’s your favorite thing about being a blogger? A plus fashion blogger?
My favorite thing about being a blogger is being able to help women find their confidence whether they’re happy being plus size or want to lose weight. I have been on both sides of the fence. I grew up small and didn’t become plus size until high school. I am able to share my journey with my readers, and I love hearing their personal stories. I get really excited when a reader tells me they bought something because I wore it or recommended it. It let’s me know that I am slightly changing someone’s life.
Who/what are your favorite designers/brands?
My favorite designers are Donna Karan and Calvin Klein, and Michael Kors. Their designs and cuts are perfect for plus size women. Most importantly, they make the same clothes in their straight sized lines also in plus.
Describe your personal style.
My personal style is classic and chic with a dash of edginess. I love classic silhouettes in modern styles, but I also like trends. I try to incorporate both in an outfit. I like to do a lot of dresses with biker jackets. My main fetish is shoes. I build my outfits around shoes. Shoes are everything. If you don’t have the right shoes on, it can totally mess up your outfit. I’ve been late to work a few times because I couldn’t pick the right shoe for an outfit. Insane, I know, but true.
Any bloggers currently on your radar?
Right now, I am really digging Jeniese from The Je ne sais quoi, Naturally Fashionable, Ivory Jinelle, GarnerStyle, Plus Size Princess, Grown and Curvy Woman, Beauticurve, and Trendy Curvy.
Anything else you want The Curvy Fashionista’s readers to know?
