If you want to start a great debate among people in the plus size community, use the word fat. Yes, that little three letter word will damn near incite a riot if said in a room full of, curvy cuties. There are some who hear the word and are immediately pained and upset, then you have those who could care less and use the word themselves. However, no matter where you stand on the usage of the word… It is not going anywhere.
Like many curvy cuties, the word fat has been used to hurt me, I have been called every kind of word for fat, fat-so and on and on, so I get it. There were times that the word bothered me, HOWEVER, I could care less about it now. While the word fat has no hold on me, I know people who hate it with a passion. I have receive countless emails from readers about my use of the word and to be honest, although I am not in that space; we do understand the feelings that the word can evoke.
I am sure that nearly all of us can relate to being called fat at one time or another and more than likely it didn’t make you feel too good. Many people internalized those feelings and have yet to be freed from them. While that is the sad reality of some, it is not every curvy cuties truth; there are others like me, who have no issue with the word. We use it often in conversation not only when speaking about others but ourselves as well.

Yes, I have heard the argument, “We have fat, we are not fat” but according to Webster and any other dictionary’s that is kind of not true. So now what? We can continue to argue about it or we can move forward and be our beautiful, curvy (fat) selves which is what many of us choose to do. Oh, you don’t believe me? Check out some of our curvy sisters using the word fat and making it look fashionably fab, that we had to round it up, TCFStyle!
