With much recent concern for the future of plus size fashion, Sue Rock Originals is a breath of fresh air in the world of plus contemporary fashion. Founded by native New Yorker and super-gifted Sue Rock, this brand is all about celebrating and embracing every curve and size with style and confidence, especially for that professional plus size person.

When you think of Sue Rock Originals, think of vibrant colors, bold patterns, and designs that are made to flatter and empower. Sue defines her target audience as the plus professional who requires clothing that speaks to their status. From chic wear-to-work dresses, to classic and timeless outerwear, each piece celebrates individuality and self-expression.

The story of Sue Rock Originals begins in the mid 2000s, when Sue and her husband (a brilliant tailor) set out to create clothing using deadstock fabrics from NYC garment industry companies. To her surprise, Sue found a surplus of businesses closing down and offering free fabric. Sue and her husband started collecting this free dead stock fabric and began creating magic.

What started with a-line straight size skirts from interior design fabric, tunic dresses in jersey and knitting and crochet pieces quickly blossomed into much more.

A few years into her design journey, Sue lost a dear friend to domestic violence. This came unexpectedly because she had no idea her friend was fighting demons privately. This story resonated with Sue, who decided to use her resources in a way that would honor her lost loved one and support survivors of domestic violence.

Sue Rock Originals Gives Back

Sue Rock Originals supports domestic violence survivors in three valuable ways. Sue Rock Originals Everyone Inc.– Designers for DV lead volunteers in a yearly drive to create clothing and home décor items for DV shelters. Sue Rock Originals also has a donation drive where new clothing samples and handcrafted items are sent to DV residences throughout the tri-state area to support survivors and their families. Lastly, Sewing for Survivors led seasonal events teaching classes for survivors to learn sewing and other crafts.

What sets Sue Rock Originals apart is not only their commitment to community service, but also to inclusivity. With sizes ranging from 1X to 6X, they ensure every woman can feel fabulous and stylish in their clothes. Through their designs and social media presence, they inspire women to embrace their curves and rock their uniqueness.

Sue Rock Originals for the Creative Professional

“I make clothes for the plus size professional – this person is the director of IMG, the lead MUA…She is the leading real estate agent in her region. These are powerful people who need clothes for galas, weddings, business conferences, award ceremonies, etc. I make clothing that speaks to your status.”

Sue Rock

Relaunching July 1, 2024, Sue Rock Originals is offering nine sustainable and fashionable pieces ranging from tops and outerwear to dresses and bottoms. With the creative professional in mind, Sue Rock Originals gives us timeless pieces that translate across many of life’s experiences and situations. Fit and fabric are core tenants for this contemporary plus size brand.

And with this indie plus size designer, you can bet what you will score from this brand, not too many others will have it. With sustainability on the forefront, Sue Rock Originals operates with a limited run — meaning that only a few pieces from each piece are made. All to ensure their carbon footprint is low.

Classic Trench Coat at SueRockOriginals.com

One of the standout pieces from the collection is the Classic Trench Coat in a Swiss cotton. As Sue Rock Originals shares, “The trench coat instantly transforms any ensemble, whether dressed up for a formal event or looking for a casual-chic appearance. A genuine fashion necessity, it effortlessly transitions from day to night and from season to season.” We can immediately see this Trench coat in this olive green hue, getting quite the workout in our closet!

One of the things the brand also champions is the finite details. Like allowing a 2-inch hem allowance for both the tall & plus size and also considerations for the petite & plus size shoppers. Colorfast cotton jerseys ensuring colors don’t fade!
