Meet Michelle of The Glam Mom!!!
Blog: The Glam Mom
Age: 38
Height: 5’6.5″ (That half inch is important LOL!!!)
Location: Chicago, IL
How long have you been blogging?
I started The Glam Mom a little over 2 years ago.
What or who inspired you to become a fashion blogger? What led you to it?
I’ve dabbled in blogging and vlogging a bit since around 2007, but never took it too seriously. After having 3 kids and being a stay at home mom, I needed a creative outlet for myself, and I thought blogging would be an easy venture. I was wrong LOL! It’s so hard!!! But a ton of fun!
Evolution!
Do you blog full-time, for fun, as a hobby? Share your evolution!
It’s more a hobby for me. I would love to do it full time, but that would require more time than I have available right now with 3 small kids and a busy lifestyle.
What is your favorite asset? Your legs, arms, waist? How do you play that up?
Overall, I think it’s my eyes. I got kind of lucky with having hazel eyes, so that’s where I like to draw focus. If I had to choose a body part, I’d choose my butt. It has been getting a lot of attention lately LOL!
Challenges
What are the challenges, if any, you face regarding being plus size?
I feel like shopping as a plus size woman has gotten much easier than it used to be. There’s a lot more options to choose from than I had even 5 years ago. I do wish there were more brick and mortar stores that I could just wander into to pick pieces to try. Shopping online for most of my clothes is sometimes a pain if things don’t fit. But it’s manageable.
THE FAVES
What’s your favorite thing about being plus size?
Lately it’s been connecting with other women! I’m finding through blogging that there is a community of super friendly and supportive girls that I’d never found otherwise. And also, my husband loves my ass, and I love that 😉
What’s your favorite thing about being a blogger?
Connecting with brands I love and sharing them with other people.
Who/what are your favorite designers/brands?
Lately I’ve been really into Boohoo and Fashion Nova, because the sales are insane and the pieces are super cute!
Who Are You?
Describe your personal style.
I always call is ‘Casual Glam’. I like to be dressed up, but I still have to clean my house and take care of my kids. So I try to keep it simple overall, but still with a touch of glam, whether it be fun shoes or nice makeup. There will always be an element of fun to whatever I’m wearing.
Which bloggers inspire you? Plus or straight size! Any bloggers currently on your radar?
There are SO MANY!!! I just recently attended the Curvy Girl Conference and connected with so many bloggers and I’m obsessed with them all! Just a few Chicago ladies that I ALWAYS will click the heart on IG for are:
Plus Size – Windy City Wardrobe, Style Plus Curves, Natalie in the City
Straight Size – Fashionlingual, Melissa Takes Fashion, Clark and Stone
PLUS SIZE
What do you think about where plus size fashion is today versus a few years back?
I feel like it’s really come so far! I’ve been sitting around a size 16 for about 10 years now. For a long time there were only a few stores I was able to shop in. And I felt like besides Target and Forever 21, the clothes were so expensive. As an admin and then a teacher, my finances just didn’t allow for me to shop at Nordstrom or even Lane Bryant. And let’s be honest – a lot of the clothes used to be boxy and even my mom wouldn’t wear them.
I’m big on fast, inexpensive fashion because I’m constantly changing how I dress and trying to be a little trendy. Now the clothes available to curvy girls are much more fun! And there are a lot more really affordable brands available. I had a friend that I’ve known since I was 19 tell me recently that I’m looking the best I’ve ever looked. And a lot of that is how I’m dressing! I can dress better because there are options for me now! And that has me feeling more confident overall.
What do you think or hear from readers, is one of the biggest myths about plus size fashion?
“I couldn’t wear that/pull that off.” Seriously – you can wear anything you want as long as you feel comfortable and wear it with confidence. Don’t be afraid to try things on! It’s just clothes!!! You never know what something will look like until you put it on!
