Coming Soon: Nordstrom’s new plus size collection- Sejour

I have been sitting on this for a while and I am so honored and excited to share! On a mission to deliver a new fashion perspective and a youthful perspective to its department, Nordstrom embarked upon creating a new brand- but they wanted to make sure they got it right. So, a few months ago, I was contacted by Nordstrom- along with a few other leading plus size bloggers to work with them on their new collection, Sejour.

After sending in our measurements-quite detailed, Nordstrom sent out samples to us for review, asked for our thoughts, and initiated direct feedback with their designers to bring this new line to their more forward Encore shopper. Excited and nervous (because I wanted to love them), I agreed to participate- I man hey, what better way to help develop the selections available to the plus size woman!

Before I go into detail about the pieces I received to test out, let me tell you more about Sejour:

What is Sejour?

Nordstrom recognizes that plus-size women deserve more on-trend, in-store and online choices, and is pleased to announce its new plus-size brand with modern styling called Sejour.

The brand is designed to meet the needs of the modern customer while still offering the core styles that our customers love. They will launch with a dedicated plus-size design and technical team to ensure great fit and meet the styling needs of fashionable women.

Sejour will be carried in sizes 14W- 24W, and 1X-3X, primarily in a curvy fit. The collection will feature great looks for layering with wonderful fabric manipulation and fun textures, sequins, beading; all sorts of stylish embellishments for the season and will provide versatile pieces for maximum wearing occasions, from weekend to work and evening to holiday.

My thoughts on the collection:

I received quite a few new classic staples for my wardrobe. Thank mom, who shot my looks! I incorporated some of my favorite pieces with the Sejour Collection to show you how I would wear the collection.

While I wait on the second delivery, I know there are some pieces I would most definitely snatch up! The Sweater, Lace top, side zip pants and the leggings- these give me options and flexibility within my wardrobe! Not only that, but they speak my fashion language. The other pieces- the sequin tank, and the gold top- not so much. However, this is only from my personal style.

What I can say is that the fabrication, cuts, and shapes of the collection were spot on! I was loving the softness of the cottons! Like Butter for me! 🙂 Especially the leggings!

WOULD I SHOP THE Sejour Collection?

Yes.

For updated, contemporary, and fun classics, occasional playful tops, and for my love of knits, so far, I am liking….

**Note**
This is not the Faith 21 line, ASOS Curves, or Evans type of collection. This collection is a bit more sophisticated with fun pieces sprinkled throughout! On trend classics and shapes that often elude us, when we want an everyday chic look!

Available exclusively in the Encore department beginning the first through second weeks of November, Sejour will launch in two phases with the first roll-out in November, and in the Spring of 2011, the full collection will be available in pocket friendly pricing from $28 to $200.

What do you think so far?

I will have to wait and see the full collection. Ive never been a fan of what Nordstrom considers “fashion forward and trendy” for the plus size woman. Like most plus size collections, its much of the same of what is already offered but with a slight change such as a flower on the chest or ruffles. Its really too bad that someone like Nordstrom couldnt step outside the box a little more. I will wait to see what happens. PS Love your blog

Have you shopped their online store? They have quite a few pieces that are very fun! I know I have always been a fan of what they have online- in store- not so much!

What is one item you have always wished for?

This is great to see that big retailers are taking our needs seriously. I can not wait to see more of the line. For a stylish 30 something with a professional job, finding quality pieces is a necessity for me. Congrats to you for being a part of this.

Will be interested to see what else is in the line. Nordstrom has definitely been uping their style quotient lately, but other than their dresses, most of their stuff tends toward boxy and unfitted. Let’s hope this line bring a few more fitted pieces….and a little less ‘grandma’ look.

Yes!!!! Feedback noted, and will most definitely share! Thank you so much for stopping by! I think that these items, are going to be a great addition to your wardrobe. Everything is not for everyone, as I loved the cardigan, not everyone will… I definitely NEED a fitted and fun jacket!

So far, so good. If I went to more parties or to the club, the embllished top would be a winner. I like the leggings & side zip pants. They go withe everything!!!!!!

I like the distinction you made about the collection’s purpose. It’s nice to see that a wider range of plus size needs are slowly, but surely being met.

Hi! My name is Kristina, I live in Seattle and am the technical fit model for Sejour at Nordstrom. I work with the designers every week. After a design is created , they fit the garment on me to make sure it is functional and actually works before going into production. I love this line. It is so fun to be a part of the process. I would love to hear more feedback about what you think…

The line sucks, I was only able to purchase the black sparkly coat. All the rest of it does not fit me, everything is way to big.

You need better fit models, Not all plus size girl are big. Some of us just have a curves, The only thing I have been able to fit and that looks good is the Black Sequin Waiter Jacket, which I love. The rest of the stuff is just really huge, I am not able to shop in the TBD department are the Bp department, POV is okay sometimes a little bit older, I am trying to figure out what age group you are going after because some the items are a little dated. Sejour weekend I dont really get it. Please take a look at Forever 21, H& M who just started a plus size line and even the DKNY line. Also we want some cool jeans. Thank you again. Please get more fit models.

Wish I could share your excitement. As far as I can tell, Nordstrom has abandoned the plus size woman
when it comes to higher-quality, tailored clothes — Jones New York,
Anne Klein, and up. They used to carry such lines, but no more.

The Sejour line is much lower-quality — the suit jackets I’ve seen are very poorly cut and constructed — and there’s no way I could wear them to work.

    So
I say shame on Nordstrom. I’ll not shop there again for anything, not
even shoes. Talbot’s Woman has become the go-to shop for me.
