Lizzo has been on an amazing roll this year! Earlier, we shared all the ways that Lizzo has been killing the game, but this latest announcement deserves a spotlight all on its own. This plus size singer is giving plus size bodies the type of representation we could have only dreamed about. And with the latest title as Global Citizen for Urban Decay’s “Pretty Different” campaign, Lizzo is on fire and we are here for it all.

Lizzo not only brings her vocals to the yard, she centers plus size dancers, gives us unapologetic fashion, and if you follow her on social, she gives us vulnerability. All of which highlight her beauty and talent, something Urban Decay noticed and took note of!

“‘Pretty Different’ is our anthem for fellow makeup junkies who don’t subscribe to beauty standards,” shares Wende Zomnir, Urban Decay’s Founding Partner.

Joining the Global Citizen for Urban Decay’s “Pretty Different” campaign, Lizzo is accompanied by Ezra Miller, Joey King, Karol G, and CL- a pretty badass group that march to their own beat.  The launch of Urban Decay’s “Pretty Different” campaign channels this mood! All to further “reject the sameness that runs through the beauty industry.”

And the video that accompanies this news? Cheekily visualizes this! In the video that illustrates sameness, these Global Citizens boldly break this model and reject the tired beauty ideals.

On why these five were chosen to make up the Global Citizens, Wende elaborates that it is “Because being different doesn’t only mean being ‘weird’ or going against the status quo—it means you being you.” 

Yes, ma’am.

Even better? Not only will these five Global Citizens star as the faces of the “Pretty Different” campaign, we will see their faces fronting the various launches throughout the rest of the year!

One thing to note, asides from Ashley Graham for Revlon, Lizzo’s role in this campaign gives us additional visibility. This is the visibility that we have been asking for. Plus size women in beauty campaigns allows us to see our own beauty! See ourselves celebrated, and for some, feel validated.

This is a big deal not only for Lizzo, but for the community as well!
