Meet Kiah of From The Rez to the City!
Location: Dallas, TX
What made you want to become a fashion blogger?
I needed an outlet to express my love for fashion and faith, and I thought that sharing it would inspire and encourage others. My husband suggested starting a blog.
What are the challenges, if any, you face in being plus-size?
The main challenge for me in the beginning was finding “current” fashion items in my size. Plus size clothing options have come a long way in these past 5 years (since starting my blog) and I’m proud of that.
What’s your favorite thing about being plus-size?
Being a positive, encouraging, and stylish example of a full figured woman in a society and community (social media) that teaches thin is the only acceptable standard of body beauty. I love being an advocate for women to love themselves no matter what dress size they wear.
What’s your favorite thing about being a blogger?
The freedom to just do ME! I’m my own boss so I can put out what I want to put out, when I want to put it out, and say what I want to say. If I don’t feel like blogging today (or this month) then I don’t and that’s totally fine.
Who/what are your favorite designers/brands?
I can always count on inspiration from my top 10 – Ralph Lauren, Armani, Valentino, Chanel, Givenchy, Balmain, Dior, Gucci, Stella McCartney, and Delpozo.
Describe your personal style.
I don’t like to describe or categorize my style because I dress according to my mood but I always try and keep it classy with a touch of glam. I’m very conservative so I don’t usually show a lot of skin.
Any bloggers currently on your radar?
One of my favorite bloggers is Aphrodite’s Lair but I haven’t seen a post since 2012. She’s so rad! As a matter of fact, now that I’m thinking about her, I’m gonna reach out because she’s been on my radar.
Anything else you want The Curvy Fashionista’s readers to know?
Yes! To my bloggers and blog followers…“When you talk, don’t say anything bad. But say the good things that people need—whatever will help them grow stronger. Then what you say will be a blessing to those who hear you”. Ephesians 4:29. The effort to end body shaming begins with you. Stop and think before you speak. Is it kind? Is it encouraging? If not, then what’s your motivation?
