As we head into the spring season (yes, I know… snow) we are readying our closets for the newness, imagining our curves in the latest trends, purging our closets of the items we NEVER ever, ever, wear. In addition to this, if you are anything like me, you tell yourself you will be daring, step outside your box, try new things, and explore new shapes and silhouettes! But in order to do this, you rely on your favorite fashion tips- right?
I mean, we all have a few tips and tricks that we have found along the way, that regardless of the season, trend, or occasion that have affected our choices… but I have always wondered what these tips are that we follow?
Well today, I thought I would start a fun discussion with you to hear what tips have really helped you along your fashion journey! Who knows, one of your tips could help another woman reading!
For me… I think my favorite fashion tip came from my mom:
“Wear what makes you feel amazing”
Growing up, my mother was in the military, 5’9” with big boobs and legs (hehehe). She always carried herself as a strong and confident woman. When she dressed up, I always watched in awe… and now, at times, I find myself looking for that same feeling when I get dressed. The “amazing” part will always vary from comfortable, classy, sexy, or sassy. I am grateful for this.
So now I ask you:
What is YOUR favorite Fashion Tip?
Are they empowering you? Are they holding you back? Are they liberating and inspiring? Did it come from the blog? Your mother? Your Friend? Your loved one? Leave your tip below!
My favourite fashion quote is from Gilda Radern (who I always adored): “I base my fashion taste on what doesn’t itch.” That does not sound that empowering, but it is important for me and how I feel and makes me try to go for reject the 100% polyester offerings that Plus Size Shops often think I should wear.
Heheheheh I hear you and agree!!! I CANNOT itch. I cannot! As I have gotten older, I am more sensitive to fabrics too! I understand!
“Fashion starts from the inside out yet style is a life long journey.” It’s my mantra. Anyone can love, covet, or hate fashion but Style is something that you develop over time from Fashion do’s and don’ts … trials and defeat… style is personal and constantly changing and it defines a part of you but not all of you.
I love this!!! And you are soooo right!!!
My favorite fashion tip is my first tenet of style – always be comfortable, but cute! Stilettos are nice but how cute are you if you are teetering about with a grimace on your face because your feet hurt? *lol*
YESSSS!!! LOL A grimace, you aint ever lied!
Just because they make it in your size doesn’t mean it’s for you. I know we like to keep up with new trends, but if you do not feel comfortable in it or it looks ill fitting please do not make the investment. I’ve learn to invest in items that work with my body, not just because they make it in a 16 and I can fit into it.
Don’t be a shopping or label snob. You can find really good things in unexpected places — I have things in my closet from WalMart and thrift stores all the way up to Saks & Nordstrom. It’s all about how you put pieces together and wear them with confidence. You can buy clothes, but you can’t buy style.
