Today we welcome Guest Blogger Nigel. He is a Freelance fashion writer based in Buffalo, NY. You can follow him on twitter at @nigelisaiah. As the lover of fashion, Nigel wanted to share his words of advice, in which I quite agree with! Please take a read and leave your thoughts for him!
Fashion advice, we all have asked for it at some point in time, “What color do you think looks better on me” or “Do you think this shirt fits me funny?” Yes, these questions for reassurance come in all types of interesting combinations and the answers you may receive will not always be what you want to hear.
Think about all of the fashion forward garments you found at your favorite stores before, the pieces that you were willing to take a risk on and purchase, but your girlfriends gave that “please put that back” look. It has happened to us all, seeking out plus size fashion advice… I mean, that is why you are reading this~ Right?
Well, this season there is some plus size fashion advice you need to consider forgetting:
Wearing Black is Slimming
Ladies if you are advised to wear black because it is slimming, toss that advice away an inject some color and prints into your wardrobe! Confidence will hide those personal problem areas just as well as your all black ensemble! All black can be chic; however, it can also be safe. If you cannot jump right in a colorful frock, try bold accessories! Have fun with this year’s biggest trends like neon colors, playful patterns and tropical prints.
Covering Up is Better
If you are always told to go for longer garments or to cover up your body let this piece of advice quickly slip your memory. Show off your arms, embrace those legs, and if courage has smacked you in the face, flaunt that midsection. Short shorts, sheer tops, and more are all great ways to allow some skin to be seen. Gabi Gregg bared it all in a video wearing a bikini and looked amazing! Now you may not be able to bring yourself to do that, but know there is no reason why you should be hiding under long sleeves and pants.
Avoiding Pieces that Show Off your Curves
Hiding behind over-sized clothing? Not this year! Be daring and purchase some body-conscious pieces! Form fitting garments are the best way to give your curves some love. Whether you are headed out for drinks or attending an event, get sexy and step out in clothing that hugs you in all the right places!
Now that you have your three fashion tips to ditch, which one are you going out to break and challenge?
This summer promises to be a hot one and your curves should be just as hot too!
Can we clone you? Loving the article and the fashions, although the models could have been chunkier/curvier. Better yet, how about an older curvacious chunk flaunting her fashion and her fan ? ; ) BB2U
If only we could get more plus size models signed to the agencies these brands use!
Nice advice if you’re plus sized and content with it….otherwise, I never get plus sized women thinking big arms or heavy legs would be attractive to show off. Like I said, for those who happen to be plus and don’t want to be, these tips are not the best.
oh man this is one of those statements that i need to say….if you dont like what you see dont look!
You are entitled to your opinion…
This is good everyday curvy girl advice. I think it can be scary for some people to try this as some girls take this too far and then there is this image that lasts a lifetime. It would have been nice to have seen images of women that had curves instead of a max size 12 girls. I understand that site sells plus sizes though. Its great to read these blogs.
Ahhh it is a challenge to get models over a size 14/16 in these shots, but hopefully the more people speak out and up the better and louder the message will be!
I’m starting to resent people telling me I have to show skin just because it’s summer. I lean toward the Casper side of pale and am allergic to sunscreen. Why should I have to risk skin cancer to make the fashionistas happy?
Its more of the box that we keep ourselves in from wearing certain items, you have a perfectly great answer and reason… its more of those who think they cant because they are plus size… you know?
Love this. I recently got a form fitting red pencil skirt. I’m a pear, with a tummy and a generous bum and thighs (so kinda curvy all round). I didn’t wear it our because I was worried, even with shapewear, that my tummy, legs and bum looked fat. Tomorrow I’ll try again.
Practice makes perfect! Thank you for sharing!
Am 5.2 extremely curvy with a bum and a bust…i also have very short hair and i have no idea how to be fashion savy i really need help with my wardrobe…..help anyone…
There are great ideas and tips throughout the blog, I hope I can help if you share more specific details!
I think this is great I am a 23 year plus size lady that thinks very highly of herself but i just couldnt get over my big arms an massive burn on my right arms. After a short talk with my circle and thinking it through i have began wearing my arms out proudy. Thanks for the extra push for the summer fashion….
I cannot wait to see where you will go in your newfound fashion freedom! 🙂
after being curvy all my life then shrinking to an xs, then curvy again after pregnancy i am refreshed and excited to get dressed again. i used to frown at myself as a young girl instead of whipping on a pencil skirt. it will take a while before my upper arms are in view but the rest of me will be having fun! thanks for the story 🙂
Thank you for sharing! We all have areas that we may not like or love, but as long as you are still celebrating you, then you are there!
Thanks for the tips for the plus size dresses looking forward to it

Any item in particular that you are looking for? Let me know! And I will!
i appreciate how this makes me feel. i’m a 14 yr old girl who is a size 14. Being considered plus size use to make feel a little down, but websites like these make my confidence a bit higher than ever. : ) thnk u so much!!!
Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Score! If you ever have any questions or are needing more places to fall in love with your curves again, please click the blogs link at the very top!
OMG I want the silver sparkly dress! Gorgeous!
🙂
Great article! Form fitting clothing can be EXTREMELY flattering on curvy girls… not to be confused with overly TIGHT clothes which look bad on anybody! Too many plus sized women don’t shop for the proper size because they’re either trying to ‘hide’ or not admit to the proper size purchases to fit them best.
Preach love! 🙂
It’s amazing to me how most of these women seem average size not plus size. I guess my idea of plus size is completely different from the industry standard of plus size. But none the less great cloths and advice
Great information you have shared with us.You have put huge information in a single blog.Keep it up.
Yes, black is slimming. But that doesn’t mean that it should necessarily dominate your wardrobe.
Hiding your body under oversized clothing is a serious no-no.
Nice collection. You have done a good job.
