Carolyn de la Drapiere is a UK based company headed by designer Carolyn Draper. Carolyn’s designs are aimed at creating luxurious, detail-driven garments that are contemporary and sophisticated. Carolyn herself hails from New Zealand, grew up in Australia and lived in the States before she settled in London.
Carolyn got her grounding in fashion through sewing and tailoring at home, learning from her mother at an early age, however, fashion was not her first career choice! In fact, Carolyn was a teacher for a while, has directed plays and even run a management company… Her arrival on the fashion scene came a little later – and it’s so exciting that she is making such a great impact! Indeed, while she mightn’t have started her professional career as a fashion designer, I must say from my point of view as a curvy fashionista – you would never know it. I love her clothes and have certainly tried my share!
Carolyn came to my attention at the 2011 Models of Diversity “Curves in Couture” show where she rocked the catwalk with fellow designers Anna Scholz and Jill Alexander. Carolyn’s clothes were fresh, feminine, detailed and beautiful. I watched, holding my breath, as gorgeous models, including Lizzie Miller, walked in Carolyn’s clothing. After seeing the show – I got into Carolyn’s studio as fast as I could. I was impressed!
In the last month, Carolyn has been even busier – showing at another Models of Diversity Show and preparing to send her fashions down the runway at a big charity event here in London next month. The event takes place on the 4th of May at the Welsh Rugby Club in Richmond and proceeds will go to the Shooting Star Children’s Hospice. If you’re in the UK; LOVE sexy, curvy fashion and want to see this amazing designer send her clothes down the Catwalk – I suggest you get in quick!
