So seductive are the dark arts of comfort dressing. On an off day, they lure you into their clutches slowly. “Hey, the dog has diarrhea, I’m just going to wear leggings and a sweatshirt to walk her in the middle of the night.” But then the night turns to day, and the plus size leggings stay on… and on and on.
Until they are all you wear. Leggings… and now, it is all you will wear. You’ve been addicted and obsessed with this comfort for weeks! Weeks turn to months and months into years. Leggings every day… even plus size leggings as pants.
You are addicted to leggings.
Now, DO NOT get us wrong… We too, enjoy a few great pairs of plus size leggings, especially as we are on the cusp of fall. But, we owe it to ourselves and maybe even the economy, to look beyond our favorite stretchy pants.
I mean, we NOW have plus size fashion options! You deserve to walk past a mirror, wink and to have a spring in your step, because, damn, you look good, and damn, you are worth it.
Many of us wear leggings non-stop because of the comfort and the easiness factor, DUH. But what if we could show you that there are just as comfortable garments out there, that deliver on comfort, fashion, and style?
It’s true!
Here are Three Alternatives to Plus Size Leggings
The Plus Size Jumpsuit
To you, I offer the jumpsuit.
But not just any jumpsuit, a relaxed jumpsuit. A jumpsuit with effortless style, that moves with you. A jumpsuit that looks polished yet is as comfy as sitting on your couch while braless finishing up a Doritos dinner. Chic minimalism meets pajama-style comfort in the Javan Jumpsuit.
You can rock it Scandi style with a sleek low ponytail, and the season’s on trend flat mules. Or, you can dress it up with bold accessories and heels to match. Or, keep it casual with a denim jacket and a pair of flats. The second best part about this jumpsuit might be the price…
The Plus Size Maxi Dress
The jumpsuit has an even easier going cousin named the maxi dress.
Ms. Maxi doesn’t mind if you haven’t shaved your legs or underarms or your even that your hair is 99% dry shampoo. Ms. Maxi just wants to get you from point A to B in comfort and style. No need to scramble around trying to find a top and bottom that flow: Ms. Maxi by Rebdolls is a one and done outfit.
Ms. Maxi is your girl for drinks with statement earrings and a chain strap bag. Ms. Maxi is your plus one at a casual wedding alongside a coordinating wrap. Ms. Maxi is your Target run friend with ballet flats and a top knot.
Ms. Maxi is your new ride or die. You look really put together, but you feel like you are cheating, how can this level of comfort be so chic?
The Plus Size Ponte Knit Pants
I get it. You are still missing your plus size leggings in a big way. Well, let me introduce you to the evolution of the legging, the ponte knit pant.
Think a legging/pant hybrid, a “lant” or perhaps a “pegging?” Made of a thick stretch knit, you get your comfort and a sartorial elevation. In fact, these ponte knit trousers from Torrid are office appropriate if styled correctly.
Heck, Torrid is even offering blazers in this fabrication, so you can literally be wearing a suit while being post-Thanksgiving feast stretchy pant cozy. And unlike leggings, they are a pant, and attire can be adjusted accordingly (ie: tucking in shirts, etc.)
You can run errands, go to PTA meetings, do presentations at work; all while secretly snickering at how ridiculously comfortable you are. Pair with a blouse and delicate earrings for days where you need your A-game. Slip into a tunic, a robe coat, and some booties for days off.
So there you have it.
Three style pivots to up your game while keeping things wearable, comfortable, and fashionable… While each garment has a time and a place, we can all get stuck and need a gentle kick in the caboose to freshen up our look.
Consider this that nudge. Live life beyond the hoodie, plus size leggings and flip-flops!
