Happy Tuesday, O Curvy Ones! We’re back with a BRAND SPANKING NEW edition of You Oughta Know. Last week, we introduced you all to the fun and flirty plus size tees from Elsa Jane. This time around, we are moving from California to Portlandia!!! Did you know that Portland, Oregon has no shortage of AMAZING plus size designers, making a mark on the scene? Take it from me, I do believe you are going to fall head over heels in love with these edgy and glamorous designs today!

You Oughta Know: Copper Union

Copper Union is the Portland, Oregon-based plus size fashion line designed by Claire Doody. Claire is NO stranger to fashion, with an extensive background in jewelry design, fiber arts and costuming. Armed with this knowledge, she has shifted her focus and passion into creating plus size separates that celebrate a woman’s curves with a GREAT DEAL of style and a WHOLE LOT of attitude!

Claire’s understanding of textiles, not to mention fit techniques has truly set her apart from a lot of plus size lines on the market. And the amount of love shown to Copper Union since its inception proves this. Claire’s designs have been spotted on plus size style icons like Margot Meanie, Kobi Jae and Ashley Nell Tipton. With shout outs from fabulous fatshionistas like them, you KNOW this brand’s dope!

Claire believes that there is a major lack of fashion-forward, modern, well-constructed plus size clothing. Because Copper Union focuses on two core values (fit and fabric), she is working diligently to fill that void in the industry. She believes that just because plus size people have more curves, it does not mean we should have to cover them in tent-like pieces made out of cheap quality fabrics. I am waving my praise fan wildly for this!

“Plus size women and men have money to spend, but there just aren’t enough choices. I’ll make my pieces in standard sizes as a special order, but it is important to me to be known as a plus size designer because that is my passion.“, Claire told Portland Monthly in a recent interview. It’s this for us by us attitude, coupled with the “modern feminine warrior” aesthetic of her line, that let’s us know that Copper Union is going to go far!

With plus size fashion, it’s so refreshing to find pieces that are not only edgy, funky and unique but well-constructed and lovingly-crafted as well. We often have to shell out a lot of bucks, so it’s essential that we know that our fashion investments will be long lasting. I love that Claire’s philosophy for Copper Union coincides with that belief, and the clothing she is creating for us is hot! And THAT’S why I think You Oughta Know, Copper Union.

Check out the store to view the entire Copper Union collection of fashion and accessories, available in sizes up to 30! Let me know which look was YOUR favorite in the comments.

Until next week!!
