Miss Erica “Fat Bitch” Watson is not stranger to the comedy scene. This fast rising comedienne is making waves and riding them to the top of her craft! Most notably given a chance to blog for the Huffington Post, Miss Watson and her one woman show is taking the entertainment world by storm!
I was fortunate to interview this Curvy.Confident.Chic. funny woman to get into the mind of this self professed “Fat Bitch” to see what inspires her to make all of us laugh a little!
An interview with Erica Watson
What are you wearing?
Right now I am wearing a cute black Micheal Jackson t-shirt that I got from Torrid along with a pair of black Source of Wisdom skinny jeans that I got from Torrid as well.
You are a comedienne, actress, and now, a blogger for the Huffington Post. You live a busy life! Where did your persona, Fat Bitch come from?
Yes girl!I have to stay busy so that I can stay out of trouble! LOL! Actually, I till manage to get into lots of trouble,so I think I need to work even more! The funny thing I’m really NOT a “Fat Bitch!”, but I have been labeled one many times, so I called my 1 woman show that just to show the world that there is more to me that meets the eye. I’m really a cool, sweet person, but society can make you act like a bitch! 🙂
Growing up, were you always a Curvy.Confident.Chic. woman? If not, what was the turning point- your aha moment?
I’ve always been pretty confident no matter what size I am. And believe me, I have been every size under the sun. I did not really start gaining weight until high school and then once I got to college, I really truly became a plus-sized woman. Confidence comes from within, and I believe that all woman should find something beautiful about themselves, and let that radiance shine through. I was always a smart kid, very outgoing and the leader of the pack, so my waist size never mattered as much as the size of my heart and personality! You gotta use what works for you and walk with your head high!
How long have you been doing stand up, and was the crowd always receptive?
Well, every comic as good days and bad days, but for the most part I have had a great experience. I’ve only been doing comedy 4 years, so I am still new to this! I’m still a NEW JACK with a long way to go before I master it! Comedy is an art form, and just like any other it take years to develop your craft and discover “your voice”. I am having an amazing time and just trying to enjoy the ride!
Who, if at all, do people often compare you to?
Instantly when people see that I am a plus sized comedian, before they even hear me, they assume that I am the second coming of Mo’nique! I am so flattered by the comparison because she has laid down the ground work and made a path for other comedians like me to follow. But I have to honestly say the people I get compared to the most when people see my 1 woman show are Whoopi Goldberg, Sandra Burnhard and even Joan Rivers. I think those three women have influenced my raw, honest style the most. My comedy deals with the harsh realities of life, politics and social issues in a humorous way. But I am proud of ALL of the women in comedy that have come before me. I love them all.
You have recently added actress to your roster, can you share which film we can catch you in?
In November you can see me in the film “Precious” that is by Lee Daniels based on the novel “PUSH” by Safire. it is being produced by Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry. I play a woman named Shelia, and although I only shot a couple of scenes, I am very proud of that work. It is an amazing movie!
I was also in the film Dirty Laundry, which has been an underground cult success. People recognize me from it all of the time and it cracks me up! It is on the TVOne channel a lot lately after a short run in theaters.
How was this experience? Working in such an anticipated, star- studded, high profile film?
All I can say is “Thank you, God!” Working with Lee Daniels was a dream come true and I am truly blessed. I can not wait for people to see “Precious.” This was my first film where I had my own trailer, and I was treated like a queen on set. I will never forget it! The Lee Daniels production team is amazing and I adore all of them!
You are currently touring your stand up show, Fat Bitch, where can we find you?

The Huffington Post, Get IT girl! What are you doing here? How did you land this?
I am a comedy blogger for the Huffington Post, and I am very excited about it. One of the editors there heard about my 1 woman show and reached out to me to see if I would be interested in blogging for them, and I said “HELL YEAH!! ” I love them!
Although you have a lot going on, what is next for Miss Erica?
I am writing a book and have a couple of offers on the table, so look for a major announcement coming soon about which publisher I partner with. It will be huge! I am also excited about more film roles and tv opportunities because of my show! I am also being featured in the January Issue of a major print magazine! I will make an announcement closer to the street date…but I am so happy that things are happening for me! I am also preparing for a shoot with the WE Network that will air Spring 2010.
What does Curvy.Confident.Chic. mean to you?
To me it means loving you…ALL of you! Standing tall and proud and being your true authentic self without any apologies. A curvy.confident.chic woman does not stay up with the trends, she sets them. It means being a trailblazer and loving every minute of it!
