Out with the old, in with the new! Gather around, girls and guys. As 2025 makes itself known, we have a round-up of icks plus size women want you to leave in 2024โ€ฆ once and for all.

Aside from TikTok trends and overused slang, this year, the fluffy community has seen a lot of discourse that must be put to rest as we enter the next 365-day cycle. How often have we opened a social media app and scrolled past a post we didnโ€™t like? Or, received a sly compliment that left us with a forced smile and the urge to return that backhanded(ness) in the rudest way possible? Unfortunately, there are too many times to count.

In a generation where the internet has found comfort in exploiting fat-curated spaces, itโ€™s almost been embedded in societyโ€™s DNA to exclude larger individuals from the general population of humanity. Conversations surrounding body positivity are (unfairly) met with unsolicited โ€œconfidence boosters,โ€ such as the infamous โ€œyouโ€™re not fat; youโ€™re beautifulโ€ line. Feelings are disregarded for a few laughs and likes because making โ€œfunโ€ of bigger people is the quick come-up for cyber-world comedians. Think pieces regarding our community are discussed by those only willing to put on their activism gear when itโ€™s โ€œhot.โ€ Self-proclaimed admirers are hiding their fetishism with false advocacy. Weโ€™ve had enough.

While we could go on (and on) about fat politics, weโ€™re ending the year with a (lighthearted yet honest) list of big girl โ€œno-nosโ€ as we move into this increased era of visibility and inclusivity. Our voices are allowed to be higher than whatโ€™s on the scale. And weโ€™re no longer afraid to say whatโ€™s simply annoying in this age of unapologeticness.

Top 9 Icks Plus Size Women Want You to Leave in 2024โ€ฆ For Good

1. Fat Girl Seasons

Whereas periods like โ€˜fat girl summerโ€™ and โ€˜fat girl fallโ€™ have been the staple of the plush-pal takeover, weโ€™re here to let you know those arenโ€™t the only seasons weโ€™re dominating. Weโ€™re year-round! While they arenโ€™t the most offensive, theyโ€™re played out and feed into the ideology that we arenโ€™t those girls every day of the week. Honey, weโ€™re in your face and here to stay! Like it, love it, or leave it.

2. โ€œBBW Loversโ€

Itโ€™s one thing to support, itโ€™s another thing to sexualize. As if โ€œBBWโ€ isnโ€™t already debatable enough, men have run the term to the ground. Although we greatly appreciate our true admirers, we all know that one person who loves plus size women and makes their infatuation their whole online identity (username included). If you go to the nearest pro-big-girl TikTokerโ€™s page, the comments are filled with those who take the said maleโ€™s attraction to us as if itโ€™s a badge of honor that weโ€™re his chosen preference. As a result, it creates this sense of pedestalization. To our fellow fine fatties, no one deserves a cookie for desiring us.

3. Confidence Compliments

Weโ€™ve all heard the โ€œI love your confidence!โ€ whenever someone sees us wearing a dress that hugs our rolls a little tighter than theyโ€™re used to looking at. Although one may have good intent, they donโ€™t realize how shady it could come offโ€ฆ at times. Why do we have to be โ€œconfidentโ€ to have the guts to show a tad bit of skin? Complimenting a voluptuous woman on her โ€œcourageโ€ to sport something is rooted in the controversial belief that โ€œdressing for your body typeโ€ strictly applies to queens of larger size. Furthermore, shouldnโ€™t all women (generally) have a level of confidence, regardless of their weight?

4. The Rise of โ€œBig Backโ€

Donโ€™t fight us because we know how you all like to tussle, butโ€ฆ โ€œbig backโ€ should have been removed from social mediaโ€™s vocabulary by 11:59 P.M. on New Yearโ€™s Eve. What started as a quick wave has become a global phenomenon. Not only does it put plus size bodies at the butt of the joke, but it also carries the theory that all heavier people are (automatically) in poor health and have excessive eating patterns. Food intake isnโ€™t the only thing that contributes to obesity.

5. Weight Loss Recruiters

Speaking of obesity, promoting your flat tummy Takis or diet Doritos in our DMs is more problematic than the unhealthiness you claim we promote by authentically embracing our existence. With gym culture shoving itself down our newsfeeds, losing weight isnโ€™t something we need to be reminded of and should be a personal decision. We each have different journeys. Let people follow theirs when the time is rightโ€ฆ for them.

6. Essays on Why You Think โ€œBigger Is Betterโ€

Along with the โ€œBBW loversโ€ often come Facebook and X posts about the โ€œperksโ€ of dating a plus size woman. Contrary to these viral think pieces, every fluffy sista isnโ€™t so desperate for love and attention that weโ€™re willing to go to unreasonable lengths to keep our partners happy. No, you wonโ€™t always have a homecooked meal on the stove after weโ€™ve run our million-dollar businesses all day (um, hello, manifestation!), nor will we go above and beyond in the bedroom without the pleasure reciprocated. Additionally, while we do have quite the cushion, weโ€™re not a built-in teddy bear and cuddle buddy. Sometimes, we want to be held, too.

7. Brands โ€œfor Fat Peopleโ€ That Donโ€™t Go Past 2/3X

Alrightโ€ฆ letโ€™s wake it up. If youโ€™re a retailer, flaunting that your company is inclusive is invalid if the only size you go up to is a 2X (maybe 3X on a good day). Through observation, many clothing companies donโ€™t cater to curvier bodies outside of the pear-shaped ratio. However, itโ€™s important to remember that throwing a couple of Xs on the tag doesnโ€™t mean youโ€™re a brand for every body. Material mattersโ€“and so do our apple-shaped beauties.

8. Unrealistic Plus Size Clothing Models

Online purchasing is (literally) the go-to for (almost) everyone these days. As a full-figured woman, shopping is (already) a task. Itโ€™s even more frustrating to browse a website and notice that none of the display models closely depict your body type, leaving the review section as your only source of hope. Some plus size people have physical restraints, while others loathe having to go inside a store and deal with an associate who doesnโ€™t know how to assist them. Creating a fair shopping experience for all (online) would keep yโ€™all from upsetting us and our homegirls in 2025.

9. Secret Admirers

Hiding your plus size queen or the fact that you dig us has never been okay and shouldnโ€™t ever be. Men like this arenโ€™t worth our time and entertainment. Fellas, we deserve to be shown off just as youโ€™d trophy the lady with the size 8 figure. Also, hopping in our messages telling us how good-looking we are but cutting up on your social media timeline as if youโ€™d โ€œnever date a big girlโ€ only shows loser traits. Love us out loud or donโ€™t love us at all.

Weโ€™re excited to see what the New Year will bring. Hopefully, a break away from these icks! If not, we guess youโ€™ll see another of our petty round-ups at the end of 2025.

As we conclude, weโ€™d like to know which of these resonated with you the most! Or, do you have any of your own to share? If so, drop them in the comments!

Until next time, Curvy Cuties.
