Hey ladies, so you know we’re all about body positivity and expressing ourselves however we want here at TCF! So its only right we shared with you the Fat Girls Dance Finale! Not familiar with the Fat Girls Dance Movement?
FATGIRLSDANCE™ (FGD)–an organization with a stamp of approval by writer and producer Shonda Rhimes–is a relentless fem‐led online movement towards body positivity and self-love through the celebration of dance.
Created by playwright; novelist; and blogger Cathleen Meredith, FGD is a year long online challenge that began August 2016. Cathleen describes FGD as “a radical act of fearlessness in a world where plus-size people are socialized to be afraid, silent, invisible, and a punchline.” The challenge? To learn one dance every week for a year. Some of the toughest choreography, only shot once, with no retakes.
It was a social experiment: we wanted to know what would happen to plus size women when they are consistently faced with something they think they cannot do, and then, proven wrong every single time. Cathleen
This year has been a whirlwind of success for the movement and all those involved. To celebrate they are having a 2-day finale. The Fat Girls Day 2-day finale is presented by Dove Real Beauty Productions. Dove launched Real Beauty Productions to expand the definition of beauty by putting the power of storytelling into real women’s hands. This weekend, August 26th and 27th, FGD is taking over NYC! In celebration of the year long challenge ladies are coming in to learn one last dance and shoot one last video for the year!
Along with completing their challenge, the finale will be 2 days packed of celebration! From body positivity discussion panels with plus size model and creator of No Wrong Way, Denise Bidot, dance classes, performances by Miss Eaves and Pretty Big Movement, speakers, and so much more! You definitely want to make sure you are in attendance.
