Another bomb independent designer providing high-quality chic attire in plus sizes. Although this brand is new to the TCFStyle Expo, it’s been around for 12 years! Let’s introduce you to Wendy S. Collection!
The Wendy S Collection is full of simple statement pieces that can be worn for any occasion. Recently, the designer collaborated with plus size blogger, Maui of Phat Girl Phresh, to create a capsule collection. The summer collection is PERFECT for that vacation you have coming up! It’s inspired by the natural beauty elements in Florida such as the beautiful turquoise waters and white sand beaches. The designer of the Wendy S. Collection, Wendy, let us in on her and the magic behind her brand. Read on to find out more about this new TCFStyle Expo vendor!
Meet The Wendy S Collection!
1. What is the story behind your brand? *
The Wendy S Collection is a resort wear/ vacation style brand that specializes in easy, uncomplicated style for women. We provide a casual-chic approach to womenswear. For the woman who wants to make a statement no matter where she goes. Our designs are filled with vibrant hues, modern chic shapes, crisp whites, carefree glamour, and beachy prints.
2. Why this focus? *
More women are traveling now, experiencing the world. There is a need for clothing that can accommodate these women. Clothing that’s comfortable, stylish, sexy, and needs less ironing. Being able to create designs with the multi-cultural sights and sounds of South Florida with the ease of beachside living is my goal.
3. What inspired you to get into fashion?
I’ve been sketching plus size women’s clothing since the 4th grade. It’s always been a dream of mine to make these visions of dresses a reality. I would watch fashion shows and study Vogue and Ebony magazines as a teenager. This passion for fashion has always been a part of my life. Once I got older I worked in medical billing but constantly talked about fashion. My family and close friends encouraged me to just do it. Stop talking about it and just do it. So in 2007, I did just that! My 4th-grade dreams are now my reality.
4. Are you self taught/passion driven or did you go to school for this?
Both, I started sewing in elementary school. I attended Bauder College for fashion design.
5. What or Who is your style/design inspiration?
The who is Michael Kors, Versace, and Rosie Assoulin. The what: multi-cultural sights and sounds of South Florida and beachside living.
6. What has been the biggest success of your brand, to date?
Being able to wake up every day and live this dream of working for myself in fashion. Every time someone purchases my design it’s a success for me. The celebrities and magazine write-ups are great but the everyday woman is the success story of my brand.
7. What would be one of the biggest style myths in Plus Size or Big & Tall Fashion?
Designers don’t want to dress plus size women. LIES! lol there are sooooo many indie designers that are needing the support. We want to and need to dress you! Give us the same energy you’re giving Gucci.
8. How do you think the plus size industry has grown over the years?
There is more variety in the plus industry now. We deserve to have as many options as possible when it comes to style and price points.
9. Have you attended or vended at the expo before? If not, tell us your past experiences, if so, let us know what you are looking forward to!
This will be my first time! Super excited to amongst other great indie brands. I am happy to be able to give customers a chance to interact with The Wendy S Collection brand.
10. What can the attendees of the TCFStyle Expo look forward to seeing from you?
We are bringing South Beach Miami to TCFStyle Expo!
