Here’s How to Shop For Plus Size Fashion on a Budget
Tip 1: Shop off Season
Shopping of season is a habit that saves me seventy to eighty percent off, each season. This is the easiest way to save money. Each year I rack up on my essentials such as pants, bags, jackets and tops as the items go on sale. Retailers typically stock for the next season six to eight weeks prior to the weather change. This little trick has me browsing the clearance aisles but at the same time, balling on a budget.
Tip 2: Plan Ahead
Planning ahead is key to avoiding impulse purchases. It is my experience that when I make impulse purchases, I am the least happy with the items I bring home . Okay, let me clarify. An impulse purchase is a shiny neon blue bag that pairs with absolutely nothing in your wardrobe, but you “have to have it”, although your sole purpose of hitting the mall was to purchase a new pair of gym shoes. This my friend is an impulse purchase.
Tip 3: Mix and Match
Mixing and matching can triple your wardrobe and in my opinion, takes a little practice. I take pride in buying pieces that pair with other items in my closet and help me expand my wardrobe. Let me give you an example. Mixing and matching is easiest done when you take it back to the basics. A strapless, little black dress can serve as a sexy outfit for a dinner date or after pairing it with a sweater, it can function as work appropriate attire. Mixing and matching can be fun and easy.
Tip 4: Buy What You Love
Purchasing items that make you feel good about yourself will result in feeling the need to shop less. When I step into a closet full of clothes that fit my body and represent my personal style, I feel less inclined to run out to the store and buy clothing that I don’t really want nor need.
Tip 5: Know The Sales
It is a little know fact that retailers rotate sale and promotions. To the untrained shopanista, it may appear that sales just come and go randomly. I am here to tell you that this is far from the truth! I even suggest asking the store associates when new shipments come arrive. When new clothing comes in the store, the old clothing needs to leave, and the method is usually a SALE!
Tip 6: Know Store Policy
Knowing the store policies of my favorite retail shops has literally saved my life. This tip has saved me hundreds of dollars while shopping. How you may ask? Simple, know if a store price matches competitors prices for items can save you money without having to drive from store to store.
Next, please check for refunds associated with sale items. More times than none, if I purchase a garment for full price, and said garment then goes on sale within 7 to 14 days from my time of purchase, the store will reimburse me for the difference! Yes, you heard me correctly. I shop a lot and I know my stuff. Simply show up with your receipt and let the money rain.
Tip 7: Try it On In-Store But Purchase Online
I am about to blow your mind! Did you know that retailers have the exact same garments that are in-store for sale at a lower price online? Did you also know that you can get that exact same garment for less buy purchasing it online and getting it shipped to your home or scheduling an in-store pickup?
This little trick has saved me 10 to 15 percent each time. So, I encourage you to shop in-store, try-on and then purchase online, your wallet will thank you!
Tip 8: Sign Up for Your Favorite Brand’s Newsletters
One of the easiest ways to know what is on sale is to find out directly from your favorite brands! Sometimes, these brands will also hook you up with a coupon, JUST for signing up with them! Score an easy 10-25% off your purchase just by joining their lists!
