**note** while I was not able to attend the show, there was NO WAY I could pass up celebrating such an amazing trailblazer! Interviewed, and featured many times over, Monif C. has shared and given us contemporary plus size fashion. So, stylist and fellow contributor Steffany Bready attended the celebration and shares her account of the highly successful celebration of five years in style- Monif C..
Years of Success
Plus Fashion industry moguls, bloggers, designers and fans all came out on a rainy Monday evening to celebrate Monif C’s five-year anniversary. Held at Bo Concept furniture store in NYC, folks gathered in anticipation to view some of Monif’ classics like the Marilyn Convertible dress, the sexy new version with ruched sides, the bold shouldered faux leather bodycon dress and more.
Monif arrived in grand style in one of her own creations, a floor length version of the black and white leopard dress and was completely surrounded by her family and team. She was totally overwhelmed by the presence of so many of her supporters.
Models posed on pedestals placed around the store’s showroom and in the windowsills displaying just how good we can all look in Monif’s dresses. The crowd sipped on sparkling rose, red wine and watermelon martinis and nibbled on treats provided by Ms. Sweet Potato. Wall mounted flat screen televisions flashed images of celebrities like Jill Scott, Angie Stone and more all-wearing Monif’s dresses.
The ever-popular Marilyn Convertible Dress was hot on the scene, wrapped in so many variations it was hard to keep up! But I think my favorite look of the night was a metallic gold draped-neck dress, worn by plus model Allison McGevna. She looked positively stunning as we joked that she looked like a gold statue ready for award season.
The showroom/store was packed with everyday fans as well as several familiar faces in the industry. Mogul and Full Figured Fashion Week creator Gwen DeVoe, MTV-TJ Gabi Gregg, Deb Maklin of ReDress/NYC and fellow plus designer Wilbur Pack Jr of SKE/WILBUR were all in attendance to celebrate Monif’s success.
Owner and creator of Carol’s Daughter, Lisa Price also made an appearance in support. As one of the sponsors for the event, Carol’s Daughter, had representatives on site giving party patrons free hand massages.
Before the end of the night Monif shared a bit of her story about how she got started. Who knew she had a degree in engineering! Go girl! She also took the time to acknowledge her parents and all who paved the way and helped her persevere and stay on track.
Kudos to you Monif C for five years in the fashion industry! Thank you for sharing your talent and helping curvy women everywhere feel sexy and alluring. We can’t wait to see what you come up with next!
We will be watching and waiting!
