Sooo… I had a mini moment on Facebook over the weekend about plus size dresses and these sheer inserts that call to question how one would wear undergarments. I love the sexiness of these, but sister girl needs a bra. BUT, I do not want everyone seeing my business, mother’s name, phone number, or address… HA!
Mesh and Sheer Insets
I did however, find a dress that had JUST enough mesh and enough peek-a-boo that would STILL allow for some support! LOL I mean, a girl has to have the girls supported without seeing or sharing all the details.
On top of everything else, finding “NUDE” undergarments is next to impossible in my hue. I have come close, but you can still see I am wearing a bra rather than the effect it is supposed to have. So, I find myself in these quandaries, where I ask myself these questions, like I did on Facebook.
BUT, I did find something that I could see myself rocking… This number from Fashion to Figure works for me for a few reasons…
- I can still rock a strapless bra
- Regardless of the pattern, the shape makes me smile
- The sheer is sexy without being over the top for me
- I wouldn’t have to fuss over my clothes all day (or night)
This is definitely one I could work with…
What about you?
We need to discuss this more.
I was going to post images of these dresses, but… I thought to myself… no. WE KNOW what these dresses are… I am sooo curious.
How would YOU make this work? When it comes to dresses and all of these cut outs, how do you make this work? WHAT do you do? Please leave a comment and share links so we can learn from each other’s tips and tricks!
I think any woman can wear this look with the right attitude! It depends on the size and placement of sheer insets, and where the dress is worn to. Clearly, dresses with cutouts (with or without sheer panels) may not be suitable for the office, but perfectly fine for parties and/or night out on the town.
Right… but I am more concerned with the undergarments and the visibility of them… 🙁 BUT I do agree!
Are all of the dresses in the post from Fashion to Figure? The two top images are actually pretty fly. And a smaller chested chick could wear the print one easily. I think with the right undergarments and attitude you can really rock whatever you want. But if you know you need a fair amount of support, there is no reason to be wearing something that you cannot put on a bra with, lol.
They are!!!! And I do dig them, but I cannot get past this thought of my undergarments showing! LOL
I hate them! To me they cheapen what would otherwise be a nicely designed dress. If an employee wore this to the office I’d send them home. Why oh why do we want to show so much flesh? Where did the classics go?
Heheheheh I like that you have sooo many questions…
Definitely agree with you. Couldn’t wear the top ones because I’m busty and could never go without a bra and I think if you are showing you bra on the top ones it defeats the purse also if you wear a cami. I could see myself wearing the bottom one for all the reasons you stated.
Twinsies! Thank you for seeing me on this one! LOL
I personally don’t like these dresses for myself. How can you wear your spanks with them?
RIGHT! Forget the spanx, I am still stuck on the bra. LOL
Marie, this post is right on time as I have recently returned several similar dresses and I’m so glad you are giving visibility in the hopes that designers who follow you will take note.
Most of these dresses are typically a body con dress, which without the right support will show every lump and bump you have! Most women who can pull this off will typically have many options on the top end of straight sizes, which seems to miss most of the audience that sites like Fashion to Figure are trying to market themselves as catering to. It’s frustrating to me as a plus size consumer!
While very pretty and trendy(as long as the insets are strategically placed), they still do not allow for the use of Spanx or other garments to smooth things out (which I have found to be my best friend) or a very well structured corset or long line strapless bra, which my G cup requires!
I’m sorry, they are missing the mark on this one.
it IS a hit or miss here… I knowwwwww! Love to look but the reality for me is missed… lol
