Out of My Comfort Zone, Feeling a Bit Saucy
I should say, pushed out… but I completely welcomed this. Out of My Comfort Zone. After Jenae Jones got her hands on me and dared me to step out and have a bit of fun, I welcomed this… it was a bit scary, I must admit, but this look, hmph. HEYYY BOOO…
The whole reason of this shoot was to celebrate TCF turning five! Jenae and I had this conversation and she was like “Bish you need to be FANCY! This is YOUR time to bring it in a new way, Fancy as F%@*!” So, we went to work…
Styled with Jenae’s help, with Makeup by Carmella and shot by the illustrious Inez Lewis, we brought this look out, and they wanted me to bring it… so I had a little fun. I mean, seriously, I do not think I would rock a fishnet crop top any other time in my life. So I thought, ‘what the hell, let’s do this!’
Out of My Comfort Zone
In a Rue 107 top and a Simply Be Faux Leather pencil skirt, we finished this off with a pair of heels from Just Fab! Smoking out the eyes, defining the cheekbones, and giving a bold lippie from Urban Decay (WTF), I was set to have some fun!
Seriously, I love this look. Would I ever wear this out and about? Maybe when I was 23… but this is what makes experimenting fun… You remember how much fun, how daring you were, how playful you can be, and how much you may have shirked away from having fun… Like, this is what I think about myself sometimes. I was always showing off the legs, rocking strapless, and rocking the heels… I wonder what happened.
Who knows, but this shoot right here reminded me about this- how daring I pushed it, how much edge I had to me, and as I find myself in an interesting transition to a more sophisticated edge, I am grateful for this shoot and for my friends who reminded me where my moxie and edge was hiding…
Here is a quick rundown of my look and where you can get the items:
- Top: Rue 107 Dark Fantasy Crop Top
- Skirt: Simply Be Faux Leather Quilted Zip Front Pencil Skirt
- Shoes: Heels from Just Fab

This is your new zone. You look amazing.
Thank you sis!!!
This is the kind of look I actually encourage young women to create less, not more. It’s hard for a woman’s intelligence, life competence, soul spirit, etc., to be seen in this look when it’s worn, for instance, in the classroom, or in the work place. I’m not kidding, I see that kind of in your face choice in places where I think it lets the woman down.
I love how you show women a way to dress that looks high style, but doesn’t in any way cross boundaries.
That said…. you look pretty damned amazing. 🙂
(PS: What happened? You matured to the point where the inner you caught up with the external buzz. Happens to the best of us. 🙂 )
Thank you.
I am not sure I follow your whole comment, you dont like the look? Or you do? 🙂
LOL! I guess I was pretty unclear.
I like the look for rock stars, or very young women out clubbing. In that case the look is pretty restrained.
I like the look on you because you dared, and because you look amazing.
I HATE the look when I see it worn to work, or to school, or to the mall on Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately, I see young women wear this, and LESS to all of those places. If I had a giant soapbox where I could reach many young women, I would get up on that thing and shout “do not wear this anywhere that you aren’t driven to by limo. Never, ever anyplace where you have to take the bus to get to.”
Hope that clarifies
Professor Divasnote (who has seen too much in her classroom)
very cute look!!!
Thank you madame!!!!
This look is off the charts! You know you need to wear this to a club just once….come on . I wore an outfit that was so out of my comfort zone last week. But it was worth it:)
xoxo
