Plus Teen USA promoting confidence from within

Have you heard of the Plus Teen USA Pageant? This 2009 event was created for plus size teens to celebrate themselves in the skin they're in, while discovering their full potential.

Building confidence as a plus size woman is hard enough when you are exposed to such negative medium through the news, television, and magazines. As plus size women are getting more attention in the news, societal views can range from the extreme harsh to the uplifting positive. But as grown women, we have, in one way or another, built up certain defense mechanisms to protect our pride, confidence or at times, our being.

But what happens to our younger women, our teens, our children, who are subjected to these harsh criticisms from the media when they have not learned about confidence, security, or personal worth? As a community, friend, family member, we must lift up these young women and celebrate their curves.

One such organization “Promoting Inner Beauty, Self-Acceptance, and Confidence That Permeates Outwardly” is the Plus Teen USA Pageant. Recognizing the fact that many plus size teens struggle with poor self-images and low self-esteem, Plus Teen USA provides expert conference speakers to facilitate and address these and other issues, in hopes that contestants will recognize and embrace their inner beauty.

Thirty percent of teens in the United States are overweight. Doctors say, if this overweight epidemic is not stopped, this will be the first generation not to live as long as their parents. Although true beauty comes from within, when we look good, we feel better about ourselves, and when we feel good about ourselves, we appreciate ourselves more and take better care of ourselves, states Jacqueline Lawrence, National Director.

Spokesperson and Featured Speaker is none other than Sharon Quinn, the 6 foot, shaved-head beauty known as The Original Runway Diva who is infamous for her appearance on all three seasons of the Oxygen Networks popular MoNiques F.A.T. Chance.

  1. I love this. I wish I was a teenager so that I could participate. They didn't have anything like this when I was a teen and it would have been awesome to have.
