Founded in 2015 by Nigerian-American sisters Chioma and Uchenna Ngwudo, Cee Cee’s Closet NYC was created after the founders struggled to find modern fashion and accessories that reflected their Nigerian heritage in the United States. Drawing inspiration from the bold colors and prints they grew up with, they launched a brand that blends contemporary style with traditional West African craftsmanship. Initially recognized for its handcrafted headwraps, the company quickly expanded into statement earrings, clothing, handbags, jewelry, waist beads, home goods, and body care. Many textiles are sourced from Nigeria, and the brand partners with artisans and women-owned workshops in West Africa, supporting local makers while celebrating African design traditions. Cee Cee’s Closet has earned recognition from publications including Forbes, Harper’s Bazaar, Essence, Elle, and Oprah Daily, while its products have been worn by celebrities including Tracee Ellis Ross, Jackie Aina, and Michelle Obama. The company has also been recognized for creating economic opportunities in Nigeria and Ghana through ethical partnerships with local artisans. The brand’s apparel collections are intentionally size inclusive, with many garments offered from XS through 3XL. Rather than positioning itself as a plus-size label, Cee Cee’s Closet embraces inclusivity by creating vibrant fashion that celebrates women of diverse body types, cultures, and identities.
