The best part of fall is, of course, the fashion. Color, texture, and pattern meet in funky ways that I love, and with the cooler weather, I can focus on the part of fashion and styling I love the most— layering (a true testament to style IMO).

It’s always going to be the layering aspect for me, and my hands-down favorite garment to layer is a jacket. There are four types of lightweight fall jackets that are perfect additions to any wardrobe this season. Read on to find out what I love about each style.

4 Essential Lightweight Fall Jackets for Every Plus Size Shopper

1. Shackets

Shackets (shirt jackets) exploded in popularity in the past few years, and they aren’t going away anytime soon. These trendy jackets combine the comfort of a shirt with the warmth and structure of a jacket. You can find them in varying weights, from lightweight to heavy.

If you’re anything like me and wait until the point of no return before you really start wearing a coat, you’ll thoroughly appreciate shackets. I easily overheat, so you can typically catch me outside, shacketed through November.

Not only do they provide comfort, but they also fit loosely, skimming over curves without clinging to the body. Opt for plaid or flannel patterns for a casual and cozy slay. Pairing your shacket with jeans, leggings, or a dress instantly adds a touch of street style to any outfit.

2. Bomber Jackets

The bomber jacket is a timeless staple that I doubt will never go out of style. Just like shackets, you can find bomber jackets in different materials and weights. I’ve seen these lightweight jackets in nylon, satin, and even leather.

The elasticized waist and cuffs of bombers are a cool hack to create shape, as a majority of bomber jackets hit right at the waist. They are just as functional as they are stylish, withstanding high winds and rain.

Bomber jackets come in a range of colors, prints, and embroidery, making them easy to style and fit within your personal style. A t-shirt, jeans, and sneaker look is a classic one to pair with a bomber for a casual day out, but I challenge you to dress it up with a sleek slip dress and heels for a night on the town!

3. Motorcycle Jackets

Much like the bomber jacket, motorcycle jackets are classic must-haves for fall. A lightweight jacket that allows you to embrace your inner biker chick while looking chic at the same time? Sign me up!

Whether it’s soft leather or faux, the material literally molds to your curves. The asymmetrical zip design and belted waist create a flattering silhouette that accentuates your figure. Pair a motorcycle jacket with jeans or a fitted skirt for an effortlessly cool look. For extra warmth, try layering a chunky sweater underneath.

4. Trench Coats

Trench coats are a wardrobe staple and an ideal choice for curvy women who want to add a little sophistication to their closet. Probably my favorite on the list, trench coats instantly elevate any outfit and create a polished yet elegant look.

Neutrals like camel, navy, and black are essentials for your wardrobe because you can mix and match them with everything you own. The adjustable belt cinches in the waist, accentuating your curves. Try layering your trench over a dress and tailored pants for a stylish yet professional ensemble.

Four Lightweight Jacket Styles, So Many Layering Options

Shackets, bombers, moto jackets, and trench coats are four essential lightweight jackets that every curvy fashionista needs in her possession. These options provide style and functionality, allowing you to embrace current trends, but still remain comfortable and confident. These options will make your transition from summer to fall seamless every year.
