When we talk about Black girl magic, fashion designer Anifa Mvuemba, founder of women’s apparel line Hanifa comes to mind! Anifa started designing in 2011 and launched her brand in 2012. Her signature designs are described as “alluring, abstract, and inclusive.” And Hanifas capsule collection definitely reflects that!
She has revolutionized the fashion industry with her 3-D runway show which she premiered on Instagram last spring. This occurred at the beginning of the pandemic when the fashion industry was literally at a standstill.
Anifa kicked open the doors with her fearless designs and phenomenal creative mind.
The modelless garments were walking down the runway and all you could see are the amazing details, textured fabrics, pleats, and statuesque headless models. The runway show was simple and to the point something that is missing from fashion shows. She made it solely about fashion. There were several couture brands and fashion houses that ran with her idea.

Hanifa’s new eight-piece capsule collection is dedicated to what we have been experiencing this last year and how can we process it all through fashion.
This collection is about optimism in our minds and how we are stronger and tougher than we think. It was designed for the customer to think freely and passionately.
What I love most about Hanifa designs is the intentionality with texture and fabric choice. The hues are always bold and scream, “I know who I am and, I’m not afraid to say it!” Every woman desires to feel beautiful in beautifully designed clothes.
The new collection consists of luxurious garments with a delicate silky pantsuit, maxi sweater dress, suede shearling coat, zebra print wrap dress, and feather skirt.
I also appreciate that it goes up to a size 20. We love a brand that isn’t afraid to give us girls plus-size options.
