Founded on January 3, 2013, PAINT by Shawn Denise was created after founder Shawn Denise became frustrated with the lack of fashionable, statement-making clothing available for plus-size women. A self-taught designer, she learned patternmaking and garment construction independently before launching her first collection, quickly building a reputation for colorful, handcrafted designs. Originally established in Albany, Georgia, the brand relocated to the Atlanta area in 2015. PAINT specializes in ready-to-wear and custom apparel designed specifically for curvy women, with collections featuring dresses, dusters, kaftans, blazers, outerwear, and occasionwear. Each garment is designed to stand out through vibrant color palettes, bold prints, and dramatic silhouettes. Shawn Denise describes the brand’s signature aesthetic through three style pillars: Bohemian Chic, Retro Chic, and Sporty Chic. Many pieces are handcrafted in limited quantities, with a focus on quality fabrics and distinctive design rather than mass production. The brand has showcased collections on runways throughout Atlanta and New York while continuing to operate as an independent label.
