Founded in 1908 in Malden, Massachusetts, Converse Rubber Shoe Company originally manufactured winterized rubber footwear before expanding into athletic shoes. In 1917, the company introduced the All Star, a basketball sneaker that would become one of the most recognizable shoes in history. Basketball player Chuck Taylor joined the company in the early 1920s as a salesman and ambassador, helping popularize the shoe that would eventually bear his signature. Throughout the twentieth century, Converse evolved from a performance basketball brand into a global cultural icon embraced by musicians, artists, skateboarders, athletes, and creatives. The Chuck Taylor All Star and One Star have become staples across fashion, music, and streetwear, appearing in countless collaborations with designers, artists, and luxury labels. In 2003, Converse was acquired by Nike, Inc., allowing the brand to expand globally while maintaining its independent identity. Today, Converse produces sneakers, apparel, backpacks, and accessories, frequently partnering with brands such as Comme des Garçons PLAY, A-COLD-WALL*, Tyler, The Creator’s GOLF le FLEUR*, and many others. Although Converse is not a plus-size fashion brand, it is recognized for its inclusive footwear sizing. Most core sneaker styles are offered in a broad unisex size range, and several classics, including the Chuck Taylor All Star and Chuck 70, are available in Wide Width options. The brand’s apparel collections also include extended sizes in many unisex styles.
