Alexis Bittar

Founded in 1990, Alexis Bittar began carving Lucite jewelry by hand in his New York apartment before selling his creations on the streets of SoHo. His work caught the attention of Dawn Mello, then fashion director at Bergdorf Goodman, launching what would become one of the most recognizable luxury costume jewelry brands of the modern era. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, the brand became celebrated for its sculptural Lucite bangles, statement earrings, crystal-embellished necklaces, and mixed-metal designs. Alexis Bittar’s pieces have been worn by celebrities including Michelle Obama, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Madonna, Cher, Megan Thee Stallion, Tyla, Angelina Jolie, Alicia Keys, and Lizzo. In 2015, Bittar sold the company and stepped away from the business. After Brooks Brothers filed for bankruptcy, he reacquired the brand in 2020 and officially relaunched it in 2021, returning as Creative Director and expanding the company into handbags and accessories while reopening boutiques in New York City. The relaunch also introduced the award-winning Bittarverse, a social-first campaign celebrated for its witty storytelling and commitment to diversity, inclusivity, and age representation. Today, Alexis Bittar continues to produce handcrafted jewelry, handbags, and accessories that blend artistic craftsmanship with modern luxury. The brand remains a favorite among stylists, collectors, and fashion editors for its sculptural aesthetic, bold materials, and unmistakable New York point of view.
