Curvy Confidence: The Jekalyn Carr Doll Is Proof That WE Can Do It, Too

It looks like Christmas came early for all the girlies around the globe, and we have The Jekalyn Carr Doll to thank for that! If you didn’t know, Gospel phenomenon Jekalyn Carr recently unveiled her very own limited-edition model. Why is this so monumental for us? Well…

Beautiful, black, and curvy, Jekalyn Carr is one of the most prominent praise and worship artists of Gen Z. In 2012, the then-15-year-old solidified her illustrious career with her breakout single, “Greater Is Coming,” the title track of her 2013 chart-topping project, which debuted as a top-tener in its respective category on Billboard. Carr would then go on to dominate Christian radio with hits like “You’re Bigger” (The Life Project, 2016) and “You Will Win” (One Nation Under God, 2018) — both indicative of her unique vocal range and artistic versatility — among others.

Flaunting an impressive shelf of 10 Stellar Awards, four GMA Dove Awards, and multiple number-one bops, the 28-year-old is certainly a trailblazer in her genre. In 2021, Carr (rightfully) earned the honor of becoming the first Gospel artist to be inducted into the Women’s Songwriters Hall of Fame. The following year, she received the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award. It goes without (further) saying that this powerhouse force is exactly who she thinks she is!

However, aside from her undeniable contributions to music, the multi-hyphenate, whose expertise also shines in acting, radio hosting, and motivational speaking, is celebrated for her fancy fashions and unmatchable mug (the makeup always eats DOWN, honey… ahkay?!). So, unleashing an exclusively crafted toy figure was a boss move for her brand… if we do say so ourselves.

What We Know About the Jekalyn Carr Doll

Earlier this month, Grammy-winning songstress Carr took to Instagram to share the release of The Jekalyn Carr Doll. The collectible, which boasts the Southern belle’s signature black hair and a lavishly designed, silver sequin dress, was reportedly a labor of love for the entertainer, who fulfilled a longtime dream.

“[The Jekalyn Carr Doll] was crafted with intentional design and beautiful, thoughtful details–each element created to inspire and bring out the inner doll in every girl, at any age,” Carr wrote in a caption under the promotional video announcing its Dec. 5 drop. “From her look to her message, she’s a celebration of beauty that begins within and shines outward.”

According to the official website, this highly anticipated item “mirrors the elegance, grace, and radiant stage presence that Jekalyn Carr is loved for” and boldly serves as a source of inspiration, faith, joy, and the ultimate self-esteem booster. The description reads: “Created to empower young girls with positive representation, this collectible doll celebrates beauty, confidence, and the power of believing in your dreams.”

Not only is the custom outfit (thrust in shimmer) enough to sell to the masses and the minis, but its premium-quality hair is perfect for styling and ensuring a life-like experience for one’s imagination. Be it gifted to a little one for playtime or an adult growing a collection of keepsakes, Carr has set a new standard for “unconventional” representation in doll culture.

Why We’re SO Here for the Jekalyn Carr Doll

In a world that has long thrived on the European belief that socially acceptable appearances only came in the form of small waists, Coke-bottle shapes, and lighter skin, the “I Am Happy” singer’s creation of the Jekalyn Carr Doll is a genius celebration of body positivity, self-love, and resilience. So much so that it sold out within hours of its live reveal.

“Thank you to each and every person who purchased and who supported The Jekalyn Carr Doll,” Carr gushed in an appreciation video to her fans. “We went live with the site around 7:00 A.M. [on December 5], and I got woken up with a call around 7:30 that they were all sold out!”

Per Carr’s caption, it all began with a vision she had a decade ago. Additionally, the Jekalyn Beauty CEO noted that other variations of the doll are in the making. She cited, “Be on the lookout for the next one! Each and every doll is limited edition. No doll, no drop will be the same… and once they are gone, they are completely gone.”

Plus size women are at the forefront of spaces that were once closed to us, and we are LOVING every bit of this.
