Looking for Big & Tall, plus size fashionable clothing options? Have you heard of MVP Collections?
Have you ever relaxed or lounged in a man’s top? Feeling a bit sexy, provocative, and sensual? Well, I have (but that is another story!) Enter in Claridge + King, the sister design duo whose inspiration spawned from the 80’s- fashioning their dad’s button downs. All grown up, but never forgetting their love for classic menswear, they created this fashion line for women inspired by menswear fabric and tailoring.
Finding this brand could not have been better timed, as last week, we highlighted the haute-est five plus size trends for summer– with the boyfriend being listing amongst the trends. Perfectly timed, I found out about the sister design duo- Claridge + King launching their collections in plus size. Intrigued, I popped over to the website, and was pleasantly surprised. The His is Hers shirt is now available in PLUS SIZES!
I had a quick moment to chat with co-founder Laurann Claridge, about the collection AND received a His is Hers shirt to review! Before I share my thoughts about the blouse, here is what she shared with us about the collection:
About the Launch of Claridge + King
What inspired you to cater to the plus customer?
When my sister Liz King and I started Claridge + King we launched in September 2008 with one product: the His is Hers shirt/nightshirt in two colors (white and light blue oxford). The idea was that nothing is sexier on a woman than when she’s wearing absolutely nothing but a man’s button-down shirt. It’s such an iconic image we’ve seen on film for decades…
It’s suggestive, yet not revealing and most men we’ve talked to think it’s the most sensual thing a woman can wear- period.
Since no one had ever created a night shirt that wasn’t too sheer as to limit you to wearing it just in the bedroom (we also sport it as a swimsuit cover up, with leggings, a skirt). We decided to tackle it by extending its tails, tapering the boxy men’s cut, and making the sleeves apropos to a woman’s arm length/width.
We had so many plus size women email us and ask if we’d consider adding plus sizes that when we had an opportunity to do so we put our toe in the water. They’ve literally been out for two weeks. We have a limited supply but if the plus size customer steps up and commits to us we’ll commit to adding more color and style options from the rest of our collection made in plus sizes 2XL and 3 XL.
Are your plus sizes available in your entire range? If not, which pieces do and up to what size?
At this moment we only offer the His is Hers shirt, our signature product made of pinpoint oxford in sizes XL to XXXL. And like our launch we offer it only in white and blue color options. We’ve been told that this is a very underserved segment of the American fashion market.
If indeed the fashion focused women who so passionately wrote to us to request it recognize the quality of our products and the versatility of this classic piece and buy it in droves we’d love to go forward and offer more products. Time will tell!
What is the inspiration behind the brand?
The line is inspired by classic menswear tailoring and fabrics. There might be an obvious link as with the His is Hers shirt or a subtle one like our tunic edged with handkerchief linen and a nautical knot cuff link.
What is even more fabulous about this line is that, for plus sizes, the introductory retail price of plus sizes is exactly the same as their standard sizes- $95– no special premium price for the curvy fashionistas!
My review of the His is Hers shirt:
First, lets talk about first impressions. Can we? I received my package in the sharpest thing available! No seriously, here is how it came:
I knew I was in for a treat, on packaging alone! I love, LOVE, LOVE brands who deliver with thought- just a personal side note. Back to my review…
Crisp and soft cotton, as a fabric snob, I was in heaven. I was wary about the blouse not being roomy enough to give my solid frame any additional femininity and I needed not to worry- for this blouse was just as I imagined it to be. Rather than having to shop the men’s department for the tunics oft desired, Claridge + King had come to my fashionable rescue!
Literally all details of a mens shirt, yet with soft touches and details needed for a womans top, I was too geeked about this. From the lapel down to the cuffs, back vent, and buttons, I really did feel sexy! Lol
As one who loves the simplicity in wearing an item- I have to be able to rock it at LEAST three ways before picking it up, unless for a special event, I knew this shirt was going to be the death of me. Cause I want like four. Worn here with my Simply Be leggings on an extremely lazy day, you could not tell me I wasn’t chic. That is how good I felt in it, no seriously! See me in my shades? I was feeling myself, just a bit!
Ohhh and for fall! Sure to be a staples forever, I will be pairing this blouse with my jeggings (score yours with my SVOBODA giveaway), my wide width over the knee boots my Kymla, layered with either scarves or a blazer! I cannot wait!
Okay, so here are some details about the blouse and their size chart is not on the site yet:

Keep in mind, when you properly launder your His is Hers® Shirt (machine wash cool with like colors, tumble dry low, removing promptly) like all 100 percent pure-cotton garments, it will shrink 3 to 5 percent (approximately 1 inch in length). Don’t worry, we specifically designed your His is Hers Shirt to shrink and fit precisely with that sensual, loose, boyfriend-shirt look.
What do you think? A high quality tuxedo blouse, inspired by menswear, but catered to the woman? Even Better INCLUDING the PLUS SIZE WOMAN?
