Issac Mizrahi and Liz Claiborne Make Music

Issac Mizrahi With Liz Claiborne

You know Mr. Mizrahi don’t you? You know, the man with the really uber chic finds at Target. Well, not anymore )gasp and sigh( I completely forgot that there were rumors that he was leaving Target for Liz Claiborne when I went into the store over New Year’s weekend.

I was hunting for anything I could find on mad sale (a girl loves a good deal!) To my dismay, the sales associates did not even know who he was! (Come on now, he has only been a matriarch of Target for like 5 years!) Anyways, when I went to ask a manager what happened to the line, they told me they were not carrying him anymore- hmmm. The reason they gave me was that shoppers did not understand that they were paying for quality and could not come to terms to pay a little bit more. Really? I found this interesting, so I went to work and found out the Real Deal.

So, I hit the web and it hit me! A year ago, I heard news that he was being serenaded by Liz Claiborne to design and lift this label from the trenches. (Really- when was the last time you rocked Liz Claiborne?) Exactly. I dug and dug to find any information about this new line and marriage made in heaven. I finally found it amongst the extreme secrecy. Why the secrecy? Well, to avoid any type of confusion of with its current Target customer and its future base, word about the move was under lock and key, until January 1st.

Mr. Mizrahi has just about full creative control over the label, including a team of 25 designers, with the luxury to design whatever he wants. The question I know you want to hear is if this new label comes in plus size! Liz Claiborne does have a plus department with some great basics, but can they bring the Contemporary Plus Size Fashion?

Take a look at the new collection and you tell me!

  1. NEWS.TO.ME!

No WONDER I couldn’t find any I-Miz products during the after X-mas sales! I LOVED his shoes and bags. I have a pair of his white leather mocs that I can rock with ANY and EVERYthing, even AFTER Labor Day. (I’m a Southern Californian; SUE ME!) :-p

    This is saddening!
I hope Target brings in an equally stylish designer to replace him; someone who will remember that there is a fashionable, femme-fatale, FAT demographic that needs filling. And none of this stopping at size 16 or 18 BS. Hook us size 20-somethings up, too!

  3. Hmmm… good question. But I wasn’t too surprised that this happened. Liz Claiborne has been needing somebody to breathe life into their brand. Hopefully Target can fill the void!
