SUMMARY:FREE Plus Size Clothing Swap with Gordita y Bonita!
DESCRIPTION:The Gordita Y Bonita Community Plus Size Clothing Swap is back and we are making space\, making friends\, and making fashion accessible. \n\n\n\nThis is more than a clothing swap. It is a safe space rooted in fat liberation\, anti capitalism\, Queer and BiPOC centered community care. It is where plus size baddies come together to reclaim style\, smash systems of oppression\, and leave with cute clothes for free. \n\n\n\nIf you wear a size 14 or XL and up\, this space was created with you in mind. \n\n\n\nLocation details will be emailed the morning of the swap. To receive the address\, be sure to subscribe to the email list when you RSVP. \n\n\n\nFree street parking available. \n\n\n\nHow It Works\n\n\n\nClean out your closet and bring gently used pieces that no longer serve you. Think elevated\, loved\, and ready for their next life. \n\n\n\n• Bring up to 40 items maximum• Shoes\, bags\, and jewelry must be placed in clear ziplock bags• Drop your items on the designated tables• Browse and take what you love. No tickets. No points. No permission needed• You do not have to bring clothes in order to take clothes• Take as many pieces as you want \n\n\n\nAll remaining clothing will be donated to nonprofit thrift stores to keep the cycle of community care going. \n\n\n\nWhat Not to Bring\n\n\n\nWe are building abundance\, not clutter. Please do not bring: \n\n\n\n• Stained\, smelly\, damaged\, or unwashed items• Clothing with broken zippers\, missing buttons\, heavy pilling\, or visible wear• Items smaller than XL or size 14• More than 40 pieces• Extra bags intended solely for donation. Please donate directly to nonprofit thrift stores if you have additional items \n\n\n\nWhy This Matters\n\n\n\nThis Plus Size Only swap is an intentional act of resistance. Against Eurocentric beauty standards. Against capitalism. Against climate change. Against the idea that plus size bodies should have limited access to style. \n\n\n\nWe believe fashion is for every body. We believe community care is radical. We believe sharing resources builds power. \n\n\n\nKeeping It Free\n\n\n\nThis event is created and organized by Chelly\, CEO and founder of XiCaliProducts. These swaps take real labor\, time\, and heart to produce multiple times a year. \n\n\n\nTo help keep this event free and sustainable\, guests are invited to support by shopping the handmade CBD remedies available in studio during the swap. XiCaliProducts creates products designed to help cycle breakers reduce anxiety and stress\, relieve headaches and migraines\, and care for their skin naturally. \n\n\n\nCommunity powered. Liberation focused. Style abundant. \n\n\n\nPull up. Bring your pieces. Leave with new looks and new friends. \n\n\n\nREMEMBER! Location will be revealed once you RSVP! SUMMARY:Making Waves Fat Swim
DESCRIPTION:A Bay Area tradition since the 1980s\, Making Waves Fat Swim is a volunteer run weekly swim created by and for self identified fat people. Held most Sundays throughout the year\, this longstanding community space brings people together for movement\, play\, connection\, and support in a fat positive environment. \n\n\n\nMaking Waves is more than swim time. It is a respectful\, supportive space where fat people gather without judgment to exercise\, float\, splash\, train\, laugh\, and build community. All genders and LGBTQIA+ fat folks are welcome. \n\n\n\nThis is a fat positive space. Discussions of dieting or weight loss are not allowed. The intention is to maintain an environment centered on body autonomy\, joy\, and affirmation. \n\n\n\nParticipants have exclusive use of the indoor pool during swim time. The locker room\, showers\, changing areas\, and ADA bathrooms are shared with the general facility. \n\n\n\nCost\n\n\n\nSuggested minimum contribution is $10 and up\, payable in the pool area\, not at the front desk. \n\n\n\nAccepted forms of payment:• Cash• CashApp: $MAKINGWAVESFATSWIM• Zelle: fatswim@gmail.com \n\n\n\nVenmo is no longer accepted. \n\n\n\nThose who are able to contribute more than the suggested minimum are encouraged to do so. The cost to rent the pool and maintain liability insurance remains the same regardless of attendance. Contributions help sustain the swim. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. \n\n\n\nSign In\n\n\n\nThere is a sign in sheet located on the bench against the windows nearest the pool door. All participants are asked to sign in\, even if unable to contribute financially. Those who cannot pay are encouraged to speak with the host. Sign in records help sustain the program. \n\n\n\nAbout the Community\n\n\n\nSince the Coordinating Committee began managing the swim in late 2015\, there have been ongoing conversations about what makes Making Waves so meaningful. At its core\, the swim is rooted in cultivating a respectful and supportive community that centers fat people and keeps diet talk and weight loss discussions outside the pool. \n\n\n\nThe Fat Swim continues because of the energy\, care\, and financial support of its community. \n\n\n\nWho It’s For\n\n\n\nAll self identified fat people are welcome. \n\n\n\nOrganizers have addressed questions about the use of a 200 pound definition of being fat. They acknowledge that it is an imperfect measure\, as 200 pounds can look very different on different bodies. After exploring various approaches over the years\, they have not identified a clearer alternative and ask participants to honor the spirit and intention of the space. \n\n\n\nQuestions\n\n\n\nFor questions about cost or payment\, contact Making Waves via Instagram at @makingwavesfatswim or email fatswim@gmail.com. \n\n\n\nThose in the Bay Area looking for joyful\, affirming movement in community will find Making Waves to be a welcoming space to dive in. \n\n\n\nFor more information visit https://makingwavesswim.com/. \n\n\n\nFor more events like this\, visit TCF’s event calendar.
