Meet Plus Size Style Blogger, Pepper of PrettyPlusPep!!!
Location: Montgomery, Alabama
How long have you been blogging? Since 2013
What or who inspired you to become a fashion blogger? What led you to it?
I was living in Florida as a district rep for a technical sale company. Many times when I was in meeting with clients, other plus size women would always ask me where do I shop. I followed many blogs for inspiration and just decided one day- why not? (Which is kinda my motto)
Do you blog full-time, for fun, as a hobby?
Currently I am blogging full time and working as a freelance plus size fashion writer. The freelance life is all about pitching, growing and learning. All this to one day bring my blog and love for styling to the big leagues.
What is your favorite asset? How do you play that up?
As much as I gripe about them, you would think I hate my thighs but they are the favorite part of my body. They balance out my body to make my waist smaller and give me curves for days. I love wearing a midi skirt that comes in at the waist and flare out when I walk. I also love a good bodycon every now and then. These thighs work a bodycon.
What are the challenges, if any, you face regarding being plus size?
Looking back at my prom pictures the other night, I felt so sad! Because at the age of 18, I was just a size 12/14 and I felt like I was the biggest girl in my class. While I don’t dwell on this past moment, this is one perception I feel needs to change when it comes to society’s identification of “plus size.” As the plus size number drops smaller and smaller, more girls are fighting the natural progression their bodies just to avoid the labels of plus size.
What’s your favorite thing about being plus size?
I love how plus size women everywhere are showing up and showing out. It assures me that I CAN DO ANYTHING.
What’s your favorite thing about being a blogger?
Getting messages from women who I have inspired. Whether it was to give them courage to try a jumpsuit or wear brights to work. It literally brings me to tears to know I have encouraged someone this way.
Who/what are your favorite designers/brands?
My favorite brand range from the quirky prints of Rue 107 to the classic pieces that rule my closet from Eloquii and Lane Bryant. I also love indie designers like Courtney Noelle, Jibri, Lavender’s Jungle and Monif C, their designs show a great appreciation for curves. My first indie piece was the Infamous Convertible Dress from Monif C.
Describe your personal style.
There are many adjectives to describe my personal style-quirky,sassy, classic, fun are the looks I vibe to the most. I love the perfect combo of color and design.
Which bloggers inspire you? Any bloggers currently on your radar?
I’m a huge fan of bloggers like Style Carmen, Kelly Augustine, and my mentor, The Curvy Fashionista. I’m always checking out the style of Feed-N-Clothe Me, Top Knot and Curves, and Simply Curvee. They are so stylish and fun in their looks.
What do you think about where plus size fashion is today versus a few years back?
I remember the days when plus size fashion was just stores like Added Dimension, Catherine’s and Lane Bryant. So many things have changed, and I’m so happy to witness and be a part of the change.
What do you think or hear from readers, is one of the biggest myths about plus size fashion?
Good fashion is expensive. I find this to be a myth because great quality costs. This is a fact for food, housing, vehicles, and professions, why not clothing?
Are you working on anything or have anything to share?
Just working on a couple projects with some of my favorite brands. Just feeling blessed for the opportunities.
