Plus Size On the Big & Small Screen! The Plus Size Actresses to Watch in 2019

Plus Size Actress to Watch for 2019- Britney Young

Over the past few years, we’ve been slowly making our way to increased representation in TV and in movies. Gabby Sidibe, Lea DeLaria, Leslie Jones, Chrissy Metz and Melissa McCarthy have been trailblazing for plus size representation for YEARS, and we know it hasn’t been easy. But which plus size actresses are making sure the representation continues?

In 2019, we’re excited to see and support more plus size babes get screen time. Not only as the side-kick, the sassy funny one, or the sad self loathing trope…  The heroine, the lead, the confident one. We already know that we have a plus size superhero movie in the works, but what else can we expect? Which plus size actresses will be kicking butt on the big and small screen?

Below are a few of our favorites to watch and support this year.  So give them a follow and check out their work!

Here are a few Plus Size Actresses to Watch in 2019

1. Danielle Perez @DivaDelux

Danielle is an LA-based comedian, and one of three babes behind Thigh Gap Comedy.  I usually stay away from comedy shows (because, well, #misogyny), but Danielle’s bits are funny, making jokes about able bodies and she regularly makes audiences cry with laughter.

2. Jen Ponton @JenPonton

Having appeared on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Dietland, and 30 Rock, Jen is definitely one to watch in 2019.

Jen’s dream role would be to play a “woman of size who is 100% okay with herself–there’s no terrible self-loathing or punishment or dieting or anything like that. She isn’t bullied by the people in her life, she’s successful, she has a rich romantic personal life–she’s basically a heroine who is amazing AND fat, and it’s a complete non-issue.”

IMDB here.

3.  Dulcé Sloan @DulceSloan

Dulcé is an actress and comedian, and I’m betting you’ve seen her work as a correspondent on The Daily Show.  I have several screenshots of Dulcé’s takes, because they’re so funny you HAVE to share them.  I *really* want to see a comedy special from her on Netflix in 2020, so how can we make that happen?  IMDB here.

4. Danielle MacDonald @DanielleMacDonald

Y’all, Australian actress Danielle MacDonald has hit the BIG TIME.  After performing in Patti Cake$, her most recent role is playing Willowdean Dickson in Dumplin’, where she starred alongside Jennifer Aniston (omg).  Creeping on her IMDB, Danielle has FOUR projects coming out in 2019.  IMDB here.

5. Lizzo @LizzoBeEating

Okay, so Lizzo is already a pretty dang famous musician, going viral for interjecting flute solos into her music. BUT SHE’S ALSO AN ACTRESS!?  When word broke that Disney was considering casting a straight-size person for the role of Ursula, the internet (and Lizzo) put Lizzo forward as one of the BEST options for the role.  IMDB here.

6. Nikki Garza @ItsNikki.G

Nikki is an Atlanta-based actress, who regularly travels to NYC and LA.  She has experience in both stage and film acting. I tune in for Nikki’s Instagram Stories EVERYDAY, because she’s hilarious – and she has great makeup tips.

When asked the kind of roles she’s interested in, Nikki shared, “I would love to play a fat character whose story line has nothing to do with weight loss or being the butt of a joke. I’d really love to play a lead in a romcom where I didn’t have to have a concussion for an attractive man to like me, just saying!”

7.  Britney Young @BritneyYoung

Britney is on a mission to take over my Netflix queue, and I am HERE FOR IT.  With roles on both GLOW and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, media lovers have been able to her impressive acting range.  IMDB here.

8.  Aidy Bryant @AidyBryant

Another member of the “Pretty Dang Famous” Club is Aidy Bryant.  Aidy got her start on SNL and steadily grew CV in Shrink Broad City and Girls.  In 2019, she’s set to STAR(!!) in Shrill, a TV series on Hulu based on Lindy West’s best-selling book.  IMDB here.

9.  Rosey Blair @RoseyBeeme

An actress and lifestyle blogger, you’ve probably-most-definitely seen Rosey on various web series from when she was in Los Angeles.  Now in Dallas, Rosey pops over to LA on a regular basis for auditions.  I’m hoping that the recent launch of her YouTube channel means she’ll do a web series of her own (nudge nudge).

From Rosey, “I’m particularly excited to be auditioning for comedy roles, but I’m open!  I want to see more plus representation onscreen.”  IMDB here.

There’s the roundup! What do you think of our list?
