My Style: Playing in Melissa McCarthy for HSN

*Disclosure* This is a sponsored post with HSN but all thoughts, opinions, and experience with the brand is my own.

I have to admit, I was so curious and on edge for the newest items to come out of the Melissa McCarthy collection, especially after all that she had to say and admonish in the plus size fashion arena… So when the collection first came out on HSN, I was left with mixed feelings, only finding one item to play in from her range.

But when HSN asked me to curate a look from their site featuring their plus size options, my curiosity had me pawning through the collections of brands and designers, who almost all carry their fashion in plus sizes as well (did you know this?). That had me perusing not only the Melissa McCarthy Collection, but Wendy Williams, Rhonda Shear, Serena Williams, Nene Leakes, and many more to see what piqued my interest!

So what did I choose?

I found this AWEsome black and white plaid midi skirt from Melissa McCarthy, which quite surprisingly is VERY substantial and definitely a fall skirt. It is ponte, but much heavier and sturdy of a fit. The waistband is wider, holding me in, and hits at a great place at the calves! There was a good stretch, but it was a firm type… I could move but I also felt HELD IN. Follow me?

For the top, it is 1000 degrees out here in Atlanta, so what I wanted to do was try something new, with a top tucked in. So I found this dope tank top by Rhonda Shear with a great shelf bra (although I did a strapless underneath), and paired my look with the highest of heels! I went with my Plei SMASH Shoes- I am addicted to her.

The tank? Ohhhh it is a staple for sure. Especially with that segzy neckline! Heyyyyy boys. That is how I feel about it! LOLOL

I will add, that the quality of the skirt? It is there. From the fabric choice, the finish, and the way it wears? Work. This skirt will live in my closet for a few years, I can honestly say that.

As far as my accessories, I added my faves from my LA Virgo homie, LUVAJ! This bracelet, ring, and midi ring are just everything to me right now! Add my Ora Delphine teal bag? I was totally living in this blog color life!

As far as the range and collection? I will admit, I was expecting a bit more structure, color, interest, and personality. I can tell there was a lot of restraint, but for how vocal Melissa has been about the lack of options, I was honestly expecting more. I do love my skirt I snatched up, but I do wish that there was so much more that I would have wanted to make mine.

  1. I like the top a lot! I was underwhelmed by the collection as a whole, also.

I do like the Wendy Williams denim jumpsuit as it is shown cuffed.

  2. I had a similar reaction to the collection…and nearly bought the same skirt! (But I talked myself out of it – the last thing I need is *another* pencil skirt.) Since this is just the first offering, I suspect they had her produce things that were “tried and true” as opposed to more avant garde apparel. Hopefully things will only go up from here!
