I have been thinking and reflecting on the New Year and resolutions, if I wanted to make them or how I was going to achieve the goals that I have for myself, both personal and professional! And I got to thinking as I have been putting together my vision board (do you do this?) why NOT toss out the resolutions list and aim for a theme?
And it seems that I am not alone with this thinking! The Huffington Post shares:
“The theme should be a word that resonates with you and embodies something that has been missing from your daily life. Instead of defining specific behaviors that you want to do, you simply keep your theme in mind and allow your days to unfold from there. This can be a very refreshing way to approach a New Year, especially for those of us who are tired of making the same resolution every year.”
Ahhh, go me!
You see, as I was cutting out phrases, messages, and things that call out to me, a certain theme emerged, screamed at me rather, and I decided that instead of writing a list of resolutions, like I did in 2014, to try something new to bring about new results, right?
I found this article about this, and this quote stood out to me:
“What’s nice about a single theme is that it’s easy to implement, simple to remember, achievable and sustainable. It’s just one thing.”
So I picked a theme!
My 2016 Theme is:
“To own your life is to take active responsibility for it, to be the spark and the engine of your ongoing growth.” itsyourlifeownit.org

Own it? Yes. In every facet of my life and heart, I want to apply or attack it with a fierce confidence or without fear. I want to be brave and bold in all avenues, and I cannot do that without OWNING IT. I have survived life this far, and as I have settled into myself with a bit more confidence and self-assuredness, along with all of the events, goals, and ideas I want to tackle for 2016, the only way that I can achieve any goals is through changing my mindset and OWNING IT.
This past year, I was unsure of myself, my ideas, my footing, even as I did these events, moved across the country, and how I approached/reflected on my blog. I faced these fears and braved them, but being the Virgo perfectionist, I knew that I could have done more and have executed some of my goals a bit better. IJS.
So as I have various goals that I would love to accomplish (as placed on my vision board), with this theme, it is a constant daily, weekly, and monthly reminder and a change of my mindset that will help those goals be a bit more attainable!
