What made you want to become a fashion blogger?

Initially I wanted to blog to share where I shopped and how I dress my body. I’ve been complimented on my style by fellow “Curvinistas,” but some also feel they don’t have the confidence or right body type to rock a certain look.

I don’t want anyone to feel that way. I want women to feel beautiful in whatever they wear.

So, if I can share a trick or two on how to make a look work while being an inspiration for them to try something, I want to be there to support their journey.

What are the challenges, if any, you face in being plus-size?

One of the challenges that I have is having a shorter torso. I’ve shared this on my blog because I stress that off the rack does not mean sized for me!

Often times, fabric on dresses or shirts will bulge and buckle on my lower back, so I have to take those pieces in.

For jackets, blazer, and investment pieces (more than $100), I let the professionals handle it, but for the most part, I do my own alterations with a quick stitch here and a dart there.

What’s your favorite thing about being plus-size?

My favorite thing about being plus size is the element of surprise! Plus size people in general are given the stereotype that we have low self-esteem, dress dumpy and frumpy, and want to hide.

When I walk into a room, you know I don’t mind being seen! From my body-con dresses, to my bright colors and prints, I’m no wallflower.

I find it funny when people’s reactions are “wow, she actually pulled that off”!

What’s your favorite thing about being a blogger? A (petite/tall) plus fashion blogger?

My favorite thing about being a blogger is hearing from my readers. Whether they’re asking about styling tips or telling me I inspired them to try something new, I love the conversation.

Before I began blogging, I didn’t know this community existed. I was a plus size girl in my own world, and then one day started researching and networking and realized I was far from being alone.

Who/what are your favorite designers/brands?

Right now some of my favorite designers are:

  • Modcloth: They feed my need for all things vintage! Even my wedding was an Art Deco/Great Gatsby Theme.
  • Eloquii-I was a fan of theirs before the relaunch, and I love their bold statement and contemporary pieces
  • Asos– Great youthful offerings. Often traditional plus size brick and mortar stores have dated styling. When I learned about ASOS on The Curvy Fashionista’s blog I fell in love and have shopped there frequently since.
  • Boohoo and Rue107-I have not shopped there yet, but I’m loving their recent look book with Nadia Aboulhosn
  • Jibri-I love African and bright prints almost as much as I love vintage. Jibri does both. From full skirts to tailored printed jackets/wraps, I can’t get enough!

My style is bold, conservative sprinkled with animal prints in a kaleidoscope of colors and wrapped in tulle!

Any bloggers currently on your radar?

Yes, always! Rochelle from Beauticurve, Aarti from Curves Become Her, Sarah from Curvily, Cece from Plus Size Princess, Chastity of Garner Style and Nadia Aboulhosn.

Anything else you want The Curvy Fashionista’s readers to know?

I’m working on a t-shirt line that caters to straight and plus sizes. There shouldn’t be a divide because fashion is for everyone.

Also, I began my 30 Days of Style Challenge by restyling only clothing from my closet using the hashtags #whatsinyourcloset and #cycurves! I’m currently at day 18.

We love finding new folks to feature, shine the light on, and interview on the blog!
