Plus size blogger Char of ChardlineHow long have you been blogging?  3 years

What or who inspired you to become a fashion blogger? What led you to it?
I have always had an interest in government, law and politics, but fashion was optional. As a bigger woman, I was routinely excluded from the latest fashion trends, cheering on the sidelines and never a participant.

In recent years, the ubiquity of plus size blogs radically changed the way I viewed the plus sized industry, plus sized women as a whole and more importantly, myself. I attribute the robustness of the plus size industry to bloggers, designers, and merchants alike that serve the plus size community in their respective capacities. Watching the growth in bloggers such as Shainna from A Thick Girl’s Closet or Gabifresh really pushed the envelope for me to showcase my style.

Do you blog full-time, for fun, as a hobby? Share your evolution!
That’s a funny question. In the beginning, blogging was something for me to do to take my mind off of studying for the LSATs. I would sit on Tumblr for 3 hours a day soaking in the beauty that style bloggers would curate. Fast forward 3 years, blogging has become something I love to do part time. Style blogging still serves as a balance for my professional vs. creative life.

What is your favorite asset? Your legs, arms, waist? How do you play that up?
My favorite asset has always been my confidence. I know, some call it cliche but I’ve noticed the difference in my styling/posture when I’m confident in myself. For me, it doesn’t matter how cinched my waist is or how curvy my curves are, when I look unabashed, it always translates well in my photos. But if it had to be a physical trait, I would have to go with my legs.

What are the challenges, if any, you face in being tall and plus-size?
Challenges I face as being on the taller side is the way clothes fit my frame. I have a lot of leg for a size 22 but too much height for a lot of standard sizing. There are times I would shop at plus size fast fashion chains and their 3x pants wouldn’t go up past my thighs.

What’s your favorite thing about being tall and plus-size?
My favorite part of being on the taller side and being plus size is the ability to fill out a ball gown. I love trying on dresses from Eloquii or Macy’s and watching how my curves fill out the whole dress. Also, I love that my heels don’t have to be too high because my dresses rarely touch the floor.

What’s your favorite thing about being a blogger?
My favorite thing about being a blogger is the relationships I’ve formed along the way. Do you know how cool it is to be able to travel and always have a tour guide or a place to stay? I’ve met women who not only helped me improve as a blogger but improve as a communicator.

And when we turn up, WE TURN UP! Had I not taken a leap of faith to become a blogger, I don’t think I would have met these women and formed such amazing relationships.

Who/what are your favorite designers/brands?
Lane Bryant, Courtney Noelle, Heathen Kouture, Fly Girl Couture, Monif C, Afrique Inspired, Diaspora Africa, Ashley Stewart, Forever 21, SWAK Designs, Pink Clubwear, Rue 107, Rebdolls, ASOS, Fashion to Figure …I can truly go on.

Describe your personal style.
This question is always the hardest for me, but I would have to say I am eclectic. Everyday is a new day to try something new, scare yourself, surprise others, etc. Some days I love dressing up like Boo Boo Kitty from Empire, and other days I am full on Cookie Lyon. My personal style reflects who I am as a woman: ever evolving.

Which bloggers inspire you? Plus or straight size! Any bloggers currently on your radar?
The Curvy Fashionista… and I am not saying this because this is your blog. On this day about 2 years ago, I won two outfits from Monif C during your anniversary Give A-Way. Before I got a full time job, I couldn’t really afford to buy designer/indie artist clothing.

I was paying for college and Forever 21 became by best friend. Also, I remember seeing a lot of her pictures with natural hair and my mom always told me “You can’t be having your naps out like that.” Marie was one of the first bloggers I saw that always had natural styles.

Kurvy Katie has my heart for real! She is always out there to help out a fellow blogger and friend. She is the funniest person I know and I am proud to call her my friend.  A Thick Girl’s Closet is the first blogger I started to follow back in ’09-10′. Watching her grow always guides me in the direction to better my craft. Essie Golden is truly a selfless person. I’ve been to two of her events and I realized that she truly does this work for US…not for the recognition. Shenell Dujour is a newer blogger that brings all types of heat! She’s very supportive and very creative.

Boardroom Blonde is also a favorite blogger of mine. I know the trials of getting through legal studies and sometimes being knee deep in studies stifles my creativity. Jolene does it seemingly effortlessly! Chante of Everything Chic and Curvy truly astounds me. Being so open with her life and dedicating everyday to her readers is truly a feat I hope to master one day! Honestly, I can go on forever but I truly see an inspirational blogger as someone who takes time to know their audience and influences them in a positive way. So I know there’s 100s of you out there and I love being part of the team.

What do you think about where plus size fashion is today versus a few years back?
Plus size fashion today has truly revolutionized. It not only evolved as providing trendier options for us today, but fashion/style is also used as an outlet to for women to express their creativity and confidence. A few years back, plus size fashion was pretty slow to start. I found myself struggling with my image because everything that fit me is something my grandmother would ask me to borrow. I wanted to be chic like my smaller friends.

What do you think or hear from readers, is one of the biggest myths about plus size fashion?
One of the biggest myths I heard about plus size fashion is that it’s only going to be a fad. WRONG! NEXT! Plus size women have always been here, it’s just that NOW people are starting to notice we have green dollars too.

Are you working on anything or have anything to share? Anything else you want The Curvy Fashionista’s readers to know?
2016 is filled with so much promise for me. I’m looking to make a big move, I’m going to introduce a plus size male contributor to the blog, I’m going to produce a series of look books, and I’m going to be unapologetic throughout the whole process!

Lastly, what does Curvy.Confident.Chic mean to you?
Curvy, Confident and Chic?
Hmmm, I’ve never really been great at internalizing words but I believe it means to realize who you are (and not according to where society sees you), curate greatness through style and fashion, and to do it all in the name of CURVES!
