Meet Kristine of TrendyCurvy!!!
Location: Los Angeles
How long have you been blogging? 2 and a half years
What or who inspired you to become a fashion blogger? What led you to it?
I have always been a plus size girl and I have always had a deep love for fashion. However, the perception of plus size women was and still is at times completely different from my experiences and the way that I looked at myself. I wanted my blog to not only serve as a source of inspiration but to also show that plus size women are trendy, fashionable and fabulous.
Do you blog full-time, for fun, as a hobby? Share your evolution!
I like to say that blogging is my second full time job. There is a lot of work that goes into it, but it is most definitely a labor of love.
What is your favorite asset? Your legs, arms, waist? How do you play that up?
I would have to say that my favorite asset is definitely my shape, so I guess it would be a combination of all those things. I love how I can see a clothing item on a rack that looks somewhat lifeless but when my curves get into it, it’s a completely different story. I play my shape up by wearing great quality bodycons and garments that accentuate my frame.
What are the challenges, if any, you face regarding being plus size?
As many more options as there are out there for plus size women, clothing still isn’t readily available to us. I rely heavily on online shopping, and while that hasn’t been the worst thing, I would like to get to a point where there are more brick and mortar store locations where we can shop, especially for those mass retailers that already have extended sizes.
What’s your favorite thing about being plus size?
I love the new-found confidence that it has given me. What once used to be a source of insecurity is now such a liberating sense of self-worth and appreciation that I cannot explain. It serves as a constant reminder to never let anyone define me as a person because of external factors.
What’s your favorite thing about being a blogger?
The best thing about blogging is the reach that it gives me. I receive messages daily from women all over the world who say that I have inspired them in some way or just given them a new outfit idea. I love that my blog is serving as a true resource for the plus community.
Who/what are your favorite designers/brands?
ASOS, Rachel Roy, Eloquii, Michael Kors, Calvin Klein, JCPenney brands (Liz Claiborne, Worthington, etc.), Forever 21
Describe your personal style.
I’d like to describe my style as classic with a modern twist. While I love classic silhouettes and wardrobe staples, I like to make outfits my own by adding in the latest trends, pops of color, as well as unique details.
Which bloggers inspire you? Plus or straight size! Any bloggers currently on your radar?
There are really too many to name. I am inspired by many bloggers who really have a unique point of view and who stay true to their personal style. I think what attracts most people to bloggers is their genuine intentions of showing their style aesthetic with others and letting that speak for itself.
What do you think about where plus size fashion is today versus a few years back?
It has truly come leaps and bounds. I remember having to shop at one store in my local mall that was located all the way at the end. It was dimly lit and had a section in the back that said “We carry plus size.” It was the only place that I could find somewhat trendy clothing that was for my age range. Now, it is a completely different ballgame.
What do you think or hear from readers, is one of the biggest myths about plus size fashion?
I think what I hear far too often is that plus size fashion glorifies obesity, and that is just the biggest stretch of thought that I think I have ever heard. It is such a lazy, go-to “insult” that clearly says more about the person speaking it than the plus community itself. To try to simplify these two very different topics and disregard the complexities, intricacies and outright facts is just astounding.
Are you working on anything or have anything to share? Anything else you want The Curvy Fashionista’s readers to know?
I am just continuing to work at creating inspiring and dynamic content for my readers and followers. As we continue to elevate our style, confidence, swagger, the misconceptions about the plus community will continue to shift into a more positive light.
Lastly, what does Curvy.Confident.Chic mean to you?
It means waking up in the morning unafraid and unapologetic to be trendy, to be curvy, and to be fabulous.
