Happy Tuesday, Curvy Crew! It’s time for you to join us on another virtual fashion excursion, are you ready? We’ve gained plenty of stamps on our TCFStyle Passports over the past few months. I still low key wish these adventures affected my frequent flyer miles, but what can you do?
We’ve reached the tail end of summer. And if you are anything like me, you want to desperately grab hold of these warm and sunny days. Like the good folks of Westeros, I know that winter is coming, but I can pretend it isn’t, right? Snow is coming to NYC, but for now… I’m leading us on a trip to someplace warm!! So grab your passports, and throw on loads of sunscreen… Because we’re going to Australia!
You Oughta Know: Australian Contemporary Plus Size Designer Harlow
Created, and manufactured in Melbourne, Harlow creates contemporary plus size fashion for women sized 12-26. The Harlow women is one who yearns to change the world, stand tall and proud, and ultimately set themselves apart from the crowd. Basically, the Harlow woman is one who slays.
The team behind Harlow are partners in crime and in life, Angelo Pietrobon and Kerry Pietrobon. As one half of Harlow’s team, Kerry had a personal reason that inspired the creation of the brand. Frustrated by the lack of “fashionable” clothing in her size, she was forced to get creative.
Using inspiration from trends she was seeing in magazines, music videos, movies and on the streets she went about adjusting store patterns and whipping up outfits on weekends, and putting her own unique twist on them to make them specific to her. She would even sometimes create looks super last minute, before heading out the door. Ooh, I am officially triggered. I know that struggle all too well!!! Crafty girls and guys know what’s up!
For the second half of the Harlow Team, Angelo wanted Harlow to showcase local talents. Recognizing that there was clearly an abundance of manufacturing talent and skills within his home town of Melbourne, he made the deciision to utilize those talents. Since the inception of Harlow, he has been determined to tap into this talent and create something special. He cites a single question as his inspiration –
What happens when inspired people work together to find out what is possible rather than what there is?
Harlow has a very unique approach to the conception and creation of their collections. They specialize in smaller runs, offering sometimes as little as 16 pieces, that have been made in a particular style, fabric or color. They do this, because they believe that it’s unique, signature pieces like this that can enhance your wardrobe and truly allow you to stand out from the crowd.
In some cases we will let you know how many pieces have been manufactured per style in the description and this will allow you to know how “special” the piece you are purchasing really is.With many pieces being made in limited edition you can rest assured that you will be amongst a select number of fashionistas who are sporting that particular design.
This is very easily why Harlow has been very successful since their 2013 debut. Harlow’s limited edition quantities not only make each design more sought after, but they also illustrate the brand’s sustainable principles of creating pieces that are fashionable, yes, but more importantly… durable. The team at Harlow doesn’t go by the “one season and it’s out” principle. Instead, they design, fit and manufacture pieces that will be on high rotation in your wardrobe for years and years to come.

I love designers that think completely about their customers. Sure, they want us to look and feel fabulous in their designs. They absolutely want to give plus size women access to fashion that is well made and both current and timeless. But if a brand looks even further and creates clothes that are meant to be worn and worn and worn some more? We go together like shamalamalama!
I don’t know about you all, but when a brand keeps my coins (or lack thereof) into consideration, I am definitely more inclined to spend it with them. And the clothes they are offering is cute, too?!? This is precisely why I believe you oughta know Harlow.
Are you a fan of Harlow? Will you be checking out their online store and become a fan?
