Meet Audrey of To Big or Not to Big!!
Location: Orléans, France
What made you want to become a fashion blogger?
Before blogging, my closet was very sad. I remember that I couldn’t find beautiful trendy clothing in my size in stores, and, by consequence, I wore many black, shapeless clothes…
One day, I discovered plus size fashion blogs, and it was a revelation! I saw that big girls could be nicely dressed, and thanks to them, I also discovered many e-shops that offered trendy clothing in my size.
Then, I decided to redo entirely my wardrobe, and it was the beginning of my blog. Through it, I wanted to affirm what I love and find my own style. It was a kind of laboratory, and now, I can express myself with my blog by sharing my outfits, tips etc…
What are the challenges, if any, you face in being plus size?
I have wide hips and a smaller waist so sometimes it is difficult for me to find clothes that fit at these two parts of my body. For example, when skirts or dresses are perfect for my hips, they are too big for my waist! That’s why I wear many belts, skater skirts/dresses: they fit and highlight these parts of my body!
Before, the challenge in being plus size was to find clothing in my size. But now, I find what I want on e-shops! 🙂
What’s your favorite thing about being plus size?
When I was younger, I was on many diets. They were a failure: for 10 kg lost, I gained 20 more kg. This is when I accepted my body and began to stabilize my weight. Now, I’m very confident: I love my curves, and even if I don’t have perfect body, I prefer to focus on my assets (like my hips or my chest, for example). I know that I’m a big girl, but this is not what I see first in the mirror. I enjoy playing with my clothes: I love to wear colors and prints, skirts, dresses and so many other things! I’m just happy to take advantage of life, and for me, this is the most important.
What’s your favorite thing about being a blogger? A plus size fashion blogger?
One of the most important things for me is the interaction I have with my readers. I love to talk and share with the women who follow me! I also try to break the rules with my blog and prove that even if we are big girls, we can wear clothes that are normally discouraged for plus size women.
I enjoy for example when a reader tells me that she dared to wear a swimsuit or dresses.
Through being a blogger, I also love to take part in fabulous projects. I can quote the French Curves Challenge, initiated by Vanoue from The Curvy and Curly Closet, which promotes diversity and the beauty at every size.
What are your favorite fashion brands?
I have many favorite brands! I love ASOS Curve for their choices and their beautiful trendy clothes. I think that 80% of my closet is from this brand! I also love ModCloth for their retro, vintage and original clothes. They have the most beautiful dresses I never seen! 🙂
I also buy on many e-shops that offer vintage-like clothes: Collectif Clothing, Lindy Bop, Lady V London, Hell Bunny etc…
Describe your personal style.
I don’t have one style because I like to wear many things! I can be rock one day and romantic the next day. But then, I can admit a small preference for romantic, retro or pin-up clothes.
Any bloggers currently on your radar?
I follow many bloggers but I like these three especially : Cupcake’s Clothes, A Curious Fancy and Tassel Fairy Chronicles. They have a real universe, and I’m very in love with their outfits! They are a great source of inspiration for me.
Anything else you want The Curvy Fashionista’s readers to know?
No matter what others may think of you: be confident! Nobody can tell you what you need to do: your body, your rules! 🙂
