Meet Thamarr of Musings of a Curvy Lady!

How long have you been blogging?
I started my blog in October 2012, so just a little over 3 years now. What or who inspired you to become a fashion blogger? What led you to it?
I never considered myself to be a fashion blogger in the beginning. I am just this girl who happens to love everything about styling and fashion. But it wasn’t until I started posting pictures of my outfits on Instagram that I kept on getting asked the same question by friends: “Are you a fashion blogger now?”
I would always reply “Oh, no!” After all, I never really thought of myself that way because I didn’t live in a big city and I definitely didn’t have a job in fashion. (I’m a full time Progressive Care Nurse). There was nothing about me or my life that screamed fashion blogger. I was encouraged by my brother to start blogging; he helped me set up my little blogger account, and the rest is history.
Do you blog full-time, for fun, as a hobby? Share your evolution!
I blog part time since I have a full-time, non-fashion related job. The ultimate goal is to do it full time. I absolutely love creating looks and writing about my fashion experiences – the good, bad and the ugly. So it would be an absolute dream to do what I’m passionate about full time.
I started it as just a hobby, but I unintentionally created this platform that has helped so many women, including myself, to become more confident, experimental and enthusiastic about fashion and style.
What is your favorite asset? Your legs, arms, waist? How do you play that up?
It would have to be my one and only dimple. It’s on the left side of my face which I consider my ‘good side’. I show it off as often as I can by smiling and laughing.
What are the challenges, if any, you face regarding being plus size?
It pains me every single time I find something that I love but it doesn’t come in my size. That’s the most frustrating thing to me. Knowing something was created so beautifully and with such detail but not with you in mind always stings a bit.
What’s your favorite thing about being plus size?
I love being able to prove people wrong about being stylish in my body; completely unashamed. I also am grateful for my curves. I never saw being plus size as a hindrance. It’s all I have ever known! I have always been big. I tease that I came out the womb plus size but I also have always been the stylish one too. The two for me go hand in hand. Plus Size and Stylish; match made in fashion heaven.
What’s your favorite thing about being a blogger?
I love being in the know about anything new in the plus size fashion world. The gifted shoes aren’t too bad either! I have met some really amazing women also and have the honor of calling a few of them real friends. Who/what are your favorite designers/brands?
Kate Spade, Eloquii, ASOS, ModCloth, Stella Jean, and Christian Siriano.
Describe your personal style.
Classically feminine yet modern with a bright eclectic fusion.
Which bloggers inspire you? Plus or straight size! Any bloggers currently on your radar?
Blair of Atlantic-Pacific is my ultimate fashion girl crush. I also love Tanesha of Girl With Curves too. Carla of The Curious Natalia, Anh Mai of Mai Style Pages, Lauren of The Curvy Perfectionist and Telly of Telly Loves Fashion should definitely be on your radar.
What do you think about where plus size fashion is today versus a few years back?
Of course plus size fashion has come a long way in the last 3 years since I’ve been blogging, even more so than from when I was a curvy kid. The thing is it takes so much time for an inch of progress in the right direction. I am a firm believer that plus size fashion will only become equal to mainstream fashion when companies and consumers invest money. I talk more about that here on my blog.
It’s great to see when designers take the chance to create on trend looks for plus sizes especially when it’s received so well by consumers. I’m really looking forward to seeing the plus designs of Rachel Roy and Christian Siriano this year. There is always risk when doing something against the grain but we are finding out more and more that there are great opportunities and progress to be made in the plus size fashion world.
What do you think or hear from readers, is one of the biggest myths about plus size fashion?
That fashion on bigger bodies is not visually appealing or accepted. That’s far from the truth. I prove it every day when I slay. Ashley Nell Tipton proved it by killing it and winning on Project Runway. It’s proven when designers include plus models to walk the runway during NYFW. Fat girls are totally winning and we don’t need approval.
Are you working on anything or have anything to share? Anything else you want The Curvy Fashionista’s readers to know?
I’m always working on something. I want to always be growing and evolving when it comes to fashion. So we will see! Follow along on my social media accounts. I am @musingsofacurvylady on Instagram and CurvyLadyMuse on SNAPChat.
Lastly, what does Curvy.Confident.Chic mean to you?
To me Curvy.Confident.Chic means embracing what you’ve got with a sense of stylish, unique flair. So, basically it”s a little bit of Denise from the Cosby Show and Kadijah from Living Single and a lot of Mindy from the Mindy Project.
