Meet Katie of Kurvy Katie!
Location: Rockville, Maryland
How long have you been blogging? 2 years
What or who inspired you to become a fashion blogger? What led you to it?
I use to post promo codes all the time on my personal Instagram and Facebook. My cousins told me I should start a blog. To be honest, I didn’t think anyone outside of family and friends would even look at it.
Do you blog full-time, for fun, as a hobby? Share your evolution!
I’m a mom of one with a full time job. When I first started blogging, it was just a hobby. I kept making excuses on not keeping it up. I really didn’t know how much work goes into a blog. So after a couple months of off and on flaking, I became serious about blogging. I put so much time into my blog I want to make it a brand.
What is your favorite asset? Your legs, arms, waist? How do you play that up?
I love my long legs. For some reason people assume I’m taller than I am when they look at them. I dress them up with skater or flowy dresses for that extra oomph.
What are the challenges, if any, you face regarding being plus size and tall?
I have two issues. I have small boobs so there have been many times that plus size tops are floppy on me. With being medium tall, I find pants in various brands that the tall is too long and the regular is too short. So I stick to the brands I know.
What’s your favorite thing about being plus size?
I love my curves. There is just something about putting on a body con and looking in the mirror and saying to yourself, “damn I look good.”
What’s your favorite thing about being a blogger?
I’m a logistician and it’s boring. Blogging is a creative outlet to express my style, thoughts, inspirations, and love of deals. Meeting and connecting with new people that have the same passion as me has been so awesome. I was shocked when I did a roll call and found out I had readers from Ireland, Philippines, Japan, and London.
Who/what are your favorite designers/brands?
Fashion to Figure
Describe your personal style.
Nine times out of ten you will see me around Washington D.C. rocking a messy bun, t-shirt, and boyfriend jeans. I love the relaxed look because you can dress it up with heels or stay low key with sneakers.
Which bloggers inspire you? Plus or straight size! Any bloggers currently on your radar?
The Curvy Fashionista (I was wearing colorful sweats suits before I found your blog)
Chante of Everything Curvy and Chic
Chardline of Plus Size Beausion
Dionne of Supersize My Fashion
Ashley of Ring My Bell
Kayce of Infamous Kayce
What do you think about where plus size fashion is today versus a few years back?
Contemporary fashion is the ish now. I use to be pissed that stores like Top Shop, Zara, or Bebe didn’t sell my size. Now I can get the same vibe of clothes from Eloquii, Hey Gorgeous, Monif C and so much more. I stopped being mad that certain stores didn’t cater to us and make sure to support the brands that support us.
What do you think or hear from readers, is one of the biggest myths about plus size fashion?
That we have no business wearing crop tops. I call straight BS on that. I’ve seen women in crop tops slay away.
Are you working on anything or have anything to share? Anything else you want The Curvy Fashionista’s readers to know?
Be on the look out for my look for less project and a smart shopping ebook. I’m so excited and I know my readers will love it.
Lastly, what does Curvy.Confident.Chic mean to you?
If you dress good, you feel good. Within your wardrobe lies the secrets to looking good and feeling great. Slay slay slay!!
