Happy Friday! Did you catch Chichi of Supple Chic last week? Today, we’re back with another of our 20 breakout plus size bloggers of 2014, Rochelle of the blog Beauticurve. Rochelle has a classy elegance to her look that shows through whether she is rocking a ladylike or body con ensemble. She is a plus size blogger YOU NEED TO KNOW!!
Meet Rochelle of Beauticurve!!
Height: 5’9″. I’ve always been the tallest girl in my class.
Age: I am 28 even though I feel like I’m 21.
Location: I’m based in Little Rock, Arkansas although I was born and raised in Southern California. I guess that means I’ve always been a little bit southern. Fun Fact: my name, “Rochelle” is the french word for “Little Rock” so I guess it was meant to be that I’d end up here.
What made you want to become a fashion blogger?
When I first moved to Little Rock five years ago, people would literally stare at me. I came to realize that they were staring because they were intrigued by the way I dressed. I never really thought of myself as someone that dressed in a way that was out of the ordinary or extraordinary. I love shopping and love looking good. I love looking like a lady, and I love to look “put together.”
I’ve always enjoyed the challenge of dressing for my size and body and others have always taken notice. It all really started with a few OOTD (outfit of the day) posts to my Instagram page. My page started growing all of the sudden and people wanted information about what I was wearing. The whole process was really organic and unexpected. After much encouragement from strangers, friends, my husband and a growing Instagram audience, I launched the site.
What are the challenges, if any, you face in being plus-size?
The challenges come from trying to change the way society views and treats plus size women. Although we have all these bo po (body positive) movements going on (which are awesome and revolutionary) and we’re all out here with our two pieces and our crop tops, there are still those who don’t think that we should be dressed as such. It’s hard trying to change the perception of people who are so closed-minded and think that we are supposed to be sad and insecure.
What’s your favorite thing about being plus size?
My favorite thing about being plus sized is the hunt for the perfect piece. People are always asking me to find something for them. Most of the time I’ve already seen it, and I just have to refer back. Occasionally someone stumps me, but not very often. I also love the plus size community. I love bonding with other ps (plus size) women by exchanging information. I want everyone to look fabulous and I don’t believe in hiding information. I’m a open book.
What’s your favorite thing about being a blogger? A plus fashion blogger?
So many opportunities have come to me since I started blogging, and I am very grateful and amazed. I’ve been able to connect with great women all over the world. I love getting emails from women who are inspired by my blog. I never thought that would happen. I never necessarily set out to inspire anyone, I just wanted to tell people where to “get the look.” The reward is far greater than I could have imagined.
Who/what are your favorite designers/brands?
My favorite brands/stores are Monif C, Asos, Anthropologie, Eloquii, Tory Burch, Louis Vuitton, and Rebecca Minkoff.
Describe your personal style.
My personal style has definitely evolved over time. I think I have finally come to a consistent place. I’m a mix of femme and edgy. I love looking classic but I also love looking a bit city/street. I really just go with the flow. I love to mix the two. I think that’s where my love of print clashing comes in…and I definitely appreciate a nice shoe and a nice bag.
Any bloggers currently on your radar?
I started my journey with only going to Young Fat and Fabulous (now GabiFresh). Since I’ve been blogging my list of favorites has grown. Jeneiese Hosey of The Je Ne Sais Quoi. She is the next big thing in the ps blogging world! She always, always gets it right, and she is not afraid to try something new. We have similar taste and even call ourselves “Style Sisters” now.
Some people would be shocked to know some of my faves aren’t even plus size. I love Devon of DevonRachel.com She’s a straight sized blogger with a perfect mix of easy Cali and chic classic swag. I adore Kris of http://misskristurner.com. She is a DIY Queen and is super adorable. I love that’s she’s such a classy lady, and her DIY projects are amazing.
