Meet Margie of Margie Plus!
Location: New York, New York
What made you want to become a fashion blogger?
Working at Lucky magazine organizing our Fashion and Beauty Blogger conference a few years back is what sparked my interest in blogging. A coworker who was a digital editor at the time pointed out how I always had awesome fashion regardless of my size and suggested I started documenting my style to share with other plus size fashionistas. I thought “Ok, what’s the harm?” and that same week I took my first OOTD post and Margie Plus was born.
What are the challenges, if any, you face in being tall and plus-size?
I find that the biggest challenge for being plus size and the height I am is that it’s often hard for me to find fashionable clothing to fit my shape. Jeans that fit my legs often are uncomfortable on my waist because as women our bodies are so different and there is no real standard size in fashion brands for us.
What’s your favorite thing about being plus-size?
My favorite part about being plus size is the constant hunt for finding the next trend in my size, It involves a lot of DIY and thrifting. To me the thrill of the chase can be pretty fun.
What’s your favorite thing about being a blogger? A plus fashion blogger?
My favorite part about being a blogger specifically plus size is that I get to share my styling ideas and self-confidence with a huge audience and underserved population. I am able to expose the plus size girl in the Midwest who is unsure about her body that plus size girls can be confident and experiment with fashion at any size.
Who/what are your favorite designers/brands?
I am a huge lover of vintage clothes but when I am buying from fashion brands I tend to love Simply Be, ASOS, Eloquii, and the brand Alice & You.
Describe your personal style.
My personal style is definitely a little more eccentric and edgy with a huge street style influence. I like to play with colors and cuts and have fun with my look rather than take my fashion too seriously.
Any bloggers currently on your radar?
I absolutely love patrolling Instagram to find OOTD inspiration and often come across awesome plus size bloggers on the rise. One in particular is this awesome Aussie plus blogger named @flossylox! I absolutely love her urban edge and constant use of bright colors. She is definitely worth checking out.
Anything else you want The Curvy Fashionista’s readers to know?
Now that I have been able to build a name in the plus size blogger world, I have recently released a music project called “Radio Ratchet” and it is available on Itunes and Spotify now! (www.radioratchet.com) I hope that I can show the music industry that you can be a plus size woman and have just as much talent and sex appeal as any other pop or hip hop artist.
